The Brady Bunch - Bad Luck, Come and Get Me!

noims says...

For a presumably unintended explanation, please refer to Monty Python's Flying Circus, Season 1 episode 12.

They had a bit of a thing for ants, I think.

Trump China

Retroboy says...

The world today seems absolutely crackers,
With nuclear bombs to blow us all sky high.
There's fools and idiots sitting on the trigger.
It's depressing and it's senseless, and that's why...
I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
They only come up to your knees,
Yet they're always friendly, and they're ready to please.

I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
There's nine hundred million of them in the world today.
You'd better learn to like them; that's what I say.

I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
They come from a long way overseas,
But they're cute and they're cuddly, and they're ready to please.

I like Chinese food.
The waiters never are rude.
Think of the many things they've done to impress.
There's Maoism, Taoism, I Ching, and Chess.

So I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
I like their tiny little trees,
Their Zen, their ping-pong, their yin, and yang-ese.

I like Chinese thought,
The wisdom that Confucious taught.
If Darwin is anything to shout about,
The Chinese will survive us all without any doubt.

So, I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
They only come up to your knees,
Yet they're wise and they're witty, and they're ready to please

Why laughing during something serious isn't disrespectful

How Not To Be Seen

The difference a laugh track makes

ReverendTed says...

I purchased the Monty Python's Flying Circus box set, and was irritated to no end by the apparent laugh track.
Some reviews mentioned that all the laughs were genuine audience laughter, though I wonder how that was achieved for certain outdoor segments (shown on a screen to the audience?).

Maddow and Maher React to Olbermann's Exit from MSNBC

Bill Maher's comment about people who don't get the joke (Fuck Them) is basically how I feel about new tv shows today. Monty Pythons Flying Circus was one of the best shows ever created...yet if it was being piloted today, it would be shot down by one stupid executive out of thousands reviewing it with a hard on for power and shutting things down.
The TV business is now an inverted pyramid...with a lot of bullshit suits at the top with very little talent at the bottom making watered down all inclusive bullshit shows for morons. Sometimes some quality sneaks through like Community...but even good shows like Modern Family are looking homogenized and "Cosbyish" in some episodes.
You don't like a new interesting TV show? You don't get the jokes they're throwing? Look in a mirror and say "Fuck You" and leave people alone.

EXACTLY... and that is why I don't have TV service. It is just a pile of crap put together to keep the mindless in their mindless state, broadcast commercials to keep corporations rich, and to feed establishment propaganda to the masses to keep them mentally in-line with the status-quo.

Olbermann went up against the status-quo and criticized the government. That is why he is going off the air. That is why he was 'let go'.

Hay Bale Explosions!

zor says...

There once was a Monty Python flying circus episode that featured exploding livestock. Mostly sheep. I remember laughing so hard it felt like I couldn't breathe. I'd like to watch that again if I can find it.

I seriously doubt my sense of humor has evolved beyond that in 30 years. If it did, that would be a big problem.

If you combine the hardcore Jimmy Buffet fans with the hardcore Grateful Dead fans you wind up with a Monty Python's Flying Circus sketch. This just occurred to me, for some reason...

Why I Love Monty Python

spoco2 says...

Ah yes, Jay says what's very true for me. Monty Python changed comedy and the Beatles changed music.

They are two HUGE influences on me growing up... With Monty Python it was never actually so much the Flying Circus, never really watched it. (Now when I do I see a lot of it was actually pretty average, it's only when you distill down the best bits that it seems like gold). It was the Python movies that I watched over and over as a kid. Life of Brian, the Meaning of Life, And Now for Something Completely Different.

And, well, Fawlty Towers (not Python directly, obviously)...

It's funny that it's my mother who is British, but my father who I get all these influences from.

What's this from (name of the show)?

Not from a show, this is a real funeral from one of the cast members of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Yes...I understand that...but most funerals don't have credits at the end and the BBC logo. This was obviously from a broadcast on the BBC and this was just the ending of it.
