How to stop a clicking hard drive

ryanbennitt says...

>> ^videosiftbannedme:
Actually recovered data from a HD that malfunctioned and had the click of death. So being a tech, I had heard of that old wives tale about putting a dead drive in the freezer. Couldn't believe it actually worked. The first time I had about twelve minutes, I froze it again, eight minutes and then a third time netted me only five, but I got all my data off it.

Not heard of this one, but read up on it and I'm intrigued. Just put my old hard drive in the freezer, cabled up and triple bagged. Fingers crossed I'll be able to recover my long lost photos.

Plasma Rocket

Gabe_b says...

I wouldn't get hung up on them not working in the atmosphere. Once (fingers crossed) the first space ladder gets up and running any rocket style tech for leaving Earth is going to look very primitive and wasteful. Between the two techs, we could have a very viable system for significant expansion into space. Hope I'm around to see it.

I'm sick of this shit. (Blog Entry by MarineGunrock)

griefer_queafer says...

I understand your pain, Marine.

My brother was actually in Kabul when the US first started bombing.

I hear that Afghanistan is a much more brutal place to be, however, so, in a sense, I am keeping MY fingers crossed that your current deployment goes through. I wish the best for you. Good luck!

Zero Punctuation - Wii Sports Resort

"The whole point of videogames is to relax after a day of doing what it is that you do during the day. "
..........................................................................................................
I don't think a game has to be relaxing/passive to be enjoyable.

Just depends what typ of game you want to play , its wrong to stipulate that all games have to be passave , in the same way it would be wrong to stipulate that all games have to be active . I find playing DDR , rock band doing some races in LFS/R factor with a g25 wheel quite relaxing but very active.

unfortunately The real problem with the Wii is that it dosenot provid a good mix and allot of the games on wii are inapropreatly active (Ie games that are more enjoyable when played in a passive control fashion) and also don't work with the controls particularly well. ( as the wii mote is actually a pretty shitty interface if you want to use a degree of skill/fine movements not spaz out )

Unfortunately We are going to have to put up with this shit for a good number of years.

Whats nice to see is that we have stuff like the novent falcon for the pc , and FFB wheels like the G25 these sorts of devices enable real emersoin and feed back from games, And fingers crossed within the next 5-10 years O.LED might get to the price point where we can finally have full 360 headsets that r comfortable and cheep to use.

Jon Stewart does what he does best. Hammer Major News Corps

I seriously can't believe that fox are still getting away with saying stuff like "i know there are unfounded rumours about michael jackson and janet jackson being the same person, it's interesting that they've not been seen in a room together"

Seriously, they are literally lying and misleading people on a daily basis. Hell i know there's been political propaganda for years, but this is farcical.

It's like holding your fingers crossed and saying "I think barack obama is a muslim extremist" and then saying NO NO NO i had my fingers crossed.

It's all symbolic. They state whatever lie they care to come up with, and then pretend that's not what they said with a kitch phrase such as "it's interesting". It loses all meaning, why not just bang a gong to express that you're just asking?

Breaking news - Barack Obama holds secret meetings with Osama Bin Laden to arrange the extermination of the population of USA. *Bang a gong*

It's the same as saying "I know there are unfounded rumours about Barack Obama holding secret meetings with Osama Bin Laden to arrange the extermination of the population of USA, and i'm not saying it's true, but he was taken to an undisclosed location and he could have been doing anything down there." It's all symbolic and meaningless, they've just found a clever way of lying.

It's like a 6 year old shouting "fup off!" in a teacher's face. Both of them know he means fuck, but he can't get into trouble.

Arma 2 Huge Battle 1000 AI

moodonia says...

This sounds (and looks) great but all I've read is its got real problems. Bugs, freezes, ai crapping out, really bad optimization, but PC Gamer gave it 84% so fingers crossed it will get the patch attention it needs as its just the kind of game I've missed.

I was a latecomer to Operation flashpoint and by the time I got the big bundle my hardware was no longer compatible. Always felt I missed out on a great game. Maybe I'll try it in Vista 64? Kaboom
