SUICIDE SQUAD - Official 'Harley Quinn' Trailer (2016)

Drachen_Jager says...

Yet another movie ruined by bad direction.

Is it really so hard to get help from action directors/choreographers who actually know what they're doing? This has been going on for 20 years in Hollywood. Some movies figure it out and manage clean, comprehensible action (ie The Matrix) while others do this garbage close-up after close-up fast-cutting fight scenes which look like absolute shit on screen because they're too lazy to do the action the right way.

I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a big-budget Hollywood film that I truly enjoyed. All the execs and their hand wringing, "Oh why don't we see the returns we used to?"

Because you make shit movies, that's why.

1. Young Turks: why not spend 3 hours to make a point that can be made in 5 minutes!

2. vloggers who/edit way too much

3. That "how to be spiritual guy" (JP Sears, I think he's called?). Yes, it was funny once, but jesus, get a new gag.

4. "fail" videos where morons too fucking lazy to try anything make fun of people who are actually attempting to do cool stuff. There's a difference between stupidity and failure.

4. people editing lightsabers over every goddamn sword fight scene. We get it, you've learned After Effects, now go do something original.

edit: and buzzfeed. Fuck buzzfed

Absolutely Terrible Bollywood Fight Scene

Daredevil Should Be Named Batman

ChaosEngine says...

New Daredevil on Netflix is great, but it's hilarious how embarrassed the creators are by the name. They only mention it in the last episode and even then it's with a knowing wink to the audience...

Audience: "daredevil"... really?
Producers: look, we know the name is stupid...
Audience: so are the horns on the costume
Producers: GODDAMNIT, WE KNOW!!! But we don't have a choice so just roll with it. ok?
Audience: ehhhhhh....
Producers: check out this sweet fight scene!
Audience: Fuck yeah! Daredevil, horned costume, all good!

Awesome one-take fight scene from Daredevil

Sarzy says...

There was an interview with Charlie Cox, the lead actor, on Slashfilm today. He's also saying it's actually one shot. I mean, I guess everyone involved could be lying, but why? It's impressive either way.

http://www.slashfilm.com/daredevil-fight-scene/

Charlie Cox: It was incredible. It was as a special day as it was to as the scene has turned out. We dedicated our whole day to it. The first half of the day was just the camera movements. And then we got into, it was as you know it’s one take, so we had to get everything right. Each attempt that we had at it. And it’s incredibly tricky because it’s not like a long tracking shot with two people speaking, it’s a long tracking shot with people punching. And if one punch doesn’t land, it no longer works. It ceases to work as a scene. So I think we did it 12 times. I think three of them we made it all the way through to the end. And one of them was the one in the show, which is kind of almost flawless. I mean, it’s very hard to pick holes in that.

Peter Sciretta: So its really not stitched together at all?

Charlie Cox: No, that’s one take.

This is more like 3-7 cuts at various places. Its certainly not one, so I hope they're not actually selling it like it is.

Awesome one-take fight scene from Daredevil

Xaielao says...

According to an interview I saw this was indeed one single take but they used the rooms to switch from actor to stuntmen and back. Most def one of the more realistic fight scenes I've ever seen and absolutely an homage to Oldboy.

I don't believe this is a 1-take fight scene. Watch the camera motion, when it "flies" near Daredevil , almost threw an opening in his arm. That seems like special effects, where the fight would have been stopped for the special effect, and then another clip of the fight to resume after wards.

Oh, and here's that interview with the stunt coordinator:

http://observer.com/2015/04/daredevil-stunt-coordinator-on-designing-a-one-shot-fight-scene-for-a-blind-hero/

So it was genuinely one shot? No cuts?

No cuts. We did do a few Texas Switches between our actor and our stunt double, but it was purely a one shot fight. There were no cuts in that fight. Every performer, the actors and the stunt doubles, were in there performing that fight full on. I’d say there was a minimum of 105 beats, and they killed it.

Jackie Chan - How to Do Action Comedy

newtboy says...

My favorites are still his old Shaw Bro's pictures.
The static shot thing is the best. I HATE it when a 'fight' scene is all 1/3 second shots from behind patched together. It's ridiculous, and not followable, and yes, looks like a bunch of people flailing around, not a fight where people are getting hurt.

Jackie Chan - How to Do Action Comedy

Jinx says...

I would still be floating on the euphoria of filming a fight scene with Jackie Chan. Cross one off the bucket list. Besides, I think he was shaking his head at himself as much as for the other guy. He said it himself, it's not pure skill, it's perseverance.

Very interesting, nice video.

That moment when Jackie shakes his head when the actor doesn't perform to his liking, man, i would be destroyed...
