Bill Maher - Dotard Trump

Ooops!

Asmo says...

Miraculous how the rockets just happened to go off perfectly aimed at a large military truck that, in all likelyhood, looks kinda like the rest of the trucks on the range?

Must have been eyeballing it, IR would have shown plenty of people around the vehicle (bit of a dead give away in a practice engagement that shooting is a bad idea...)

Japan Does Computer Commercials Better

In what way is this 'better'. I know zero about the product other than their reliance on pseudo creepy use of young women being flirty in order to draw eyeballs. Not that we're above that mind you, but this is still a shitty add.

Youtube: Blocking Revenue is Censorship

00Scud00 says...

Except you still need content to attract viewers and YouTube did that by creating a place where you could find shit you will never see on traditional TV. Without viewers you might as well be erecting billboards around Neptune. And advertisers will be willing to pay for ad space on YouTube, there are simply too many eyeballs for them to ignore.

"YouTube is walking a fine line here, their empire is built on all these small creators as much as it's big ones advertisers and their willingness to pay for ads. Piss them off enough and they may decide it's no longer worth it and either quit or take their content elsewhere. The less diversity YouTube has in it's programming and the more it just looks like another TV network, with all the same safe boring advertiser-relevant bullshit."

My God, It's Full of St...Spiders

Angua1 says...

It's the reflection of light off the back of their eyes. When I walk the dogs or run early in the morning I wear a cap with led lights on the brim - exactly the right spot for this kind of reflection to shoot back so I can see it - different angle than if I was holding a flashlight. Anyway, with this light I noticed the reflection off deer eyes is greenish, more muted with rabbits, very bright with raccoons and foxes. And then one day I thought i noticed some bright tin foil or something sparkly on the ground - nope spider eyeballs! In the fall the sparkles on the ground are amazing. I highly recommend experimenting with using a led flashlight in the fall. It's very cool to find critters, including spiders, this way.

Kitty Has Had Enough of Your Sh*t

artician says...

Yeah this whole thing is terrible. Asshole parent filming the thing, shitty kid terrorizing the cat, stupid cat for not finding a better home...
But really, I was hoping kitty got an eyeball for its trouble.

That's some great fucking parenting right there.

Homeless Hero Sacrifies

Maybe, (suggestion for @dag?), there should be another channel /tag for this that allows for us to post thoughtful-but-offensive clips (that won't just pave the way for a slew of porn or violence).

RE: the 'educational' value-- maybe a "human condition" or "humanity" tag would be good? I know there's already 'humanitarian' but the difference in meaning is probably clear. There must be a term to categorize videos like this under exclusively... "Graphic Content"? Some way to respectfully post videos that encourage sincere, humble thoughtfulness about our world and lives, that can show content like this in that light for the sake of seeing the gravity of our existence face to face. These events, actions and consequences are all reflective of all of us.

I also have certain content that I refuse to put my eyeballs on, and would get extremely offended if I opened the Sift one day and found it at the top of the page, but I'm more in favor of giving videos like that a proper place rather than censoring it entirely.

So are other sift videos that only add anger in our community. As @artician says, we are better for having seen it. It adds life to a perception that others have wrongly. It is educational, but I didn't put the tag on it because it is not educational in a certain sense.

I Could Do That | The Art Assignment

robbersdog49 says...

Hmmmm. I buy some of that, but not all of it. Or rather it's true in some cases but not all. Some art, like the two lovers/clocks has meaning beyond it's own form and that's important to appreciate it. But there are certainly some abstract works out there that are just too lost in art.

I'm on the edge of the art world as an illustrator and photographer and completely get the 'go do it' angle though. Just saying 'I could do that' is missing the point entirely. Anyone who looks at a simple bit of art with a high value and thinks it must be simple to just paint a few squares and put a thousand pound price on it can't honestly believe it, otherwise we'd be up to our eyeballs in shitty paintings with huge price tags.

If a bit of artwork needs an artist's name to be worth something then consider what it took for the artist to get to that place. They didn't just wake up one morning a famous artist. The name gives context and can be important. Not every time, some 'artists' are just way too into their circlejerks and mutual bigging up that the only skill an artist might need is to be just weird enough and in the right place at the right time to be one of the 'in crowd', but to be fair this isn't the case with the vast majority of abstract art.
