All I Do Is Dick Around... with Cats

noims says...

In light of Edgar Wright doing a film about Sparks I thought I'd *promote my favourite song of theirs (not that I know many).

Plus I'm quite the fan of dicking around (in a lazy way as per the song, not an unfaithful one).

Facing the final boss after doing every single side-quest

Edgar had Genji Gloves (dual wield) and Offering (attack 4 times per weapon, so 8 with Genji Glove), with Atma Weapon and Ragnarok swords.

I didn't get to level 999, but I had the same gear as you. Those 8 attacks were insane.

Facing the final boss after doing every single side-quest

MilkmanDan says...

This really rang true for me... (Cool Story Bro alert)

I spent a ridiculous amount of time playing two different RPGs in my early teen years: Ultima 6 and Final Fantasy 3 (SNES, FF6 by Japanese reckoning).

I treated Ultima 6 as a world simulator more than a "game", and so I never actually finished it because I had discovered and thrown away key plot items, and done enough"evil" stuff to have low karma that prevented me from actually proceeding with the story. But I didn't care much, I enjoyed just exploring and steamrolling anything that crossed my path.

Final Fantasy 3(6) was more forgiving though. I put experience eggs and other stuff on each character and then ground xp in the dinosaur forest, and eventually got every one up to level 99 with 9999 health and high stats. Similar to Ultima 6, I mainly enjoyed exploring and leveling up, so I had never even tried the final boss battle (Kefka) until I had every single character up to level 99 (not just 4-person party, I mean *every* character).

I figured being the final boss meant that it would be a tough fight no matter what. So I decked out a group of 4 (I liked Edgar, Sabin, Mog, and Umaro as my favorites) all with high end stuff. Edgar had Genji Gloves (dual wield) and Offering (attack 4 times per weapon, so 8 with Genji Glove), with Atma Weapon and Ragnarok swords.

Fight my way to Kefka, and order Edgar to "attack" -- 8 attacks of 9999 damage each, Kefka dies without getting so much as a single turn. Welp, guess I overprepared for that boss!

Honest Trailers: Baby Driver

ChaosEngine says...

I found it disappointing to be honest. I love Edgar Wright, but this just didn't do it for me. Ultimately, I didn't really care about any of the characters and the actor playing baby bored me to tears.

@bareboards2, yeah, I'm not a fan of Ansel Elgort either, and I'm kinda worried about him playing Han Solo.

@Drachen_Jager Ronin, hell yes! Such a great car chase. Totally underrated movie.

I haven't seen Baby Driver yet (doesn't come out until the 20th on NZ), but isn't the whole point that it's NOT realistic? I thought the concept was basically "car chase musical"? Agree about the cutting, though, which I'm surprised at from Edgar Wright.

Except that lead actor. Nobody was home.

I kept imagining what a young Johnny Depp or Ryan Gosling could have done to inject some soul into surface portrait.

I'm an acting nerd. What can I say.

And yeah. I felt like applauding at the end of this sequence when I saw it in the theatre. Edgar Wright. Yeah.

Ant-Man – Official Trailer

ChaosEngine says...

I don't know if the movie will be any good, but generally the trailer is supposed to build excitement for the movie and so far, I am unexcited to see this movie. That may change.

Also, the directors previous movies aren't exactly amazing. It's a shame they didn't let Edgar Wright do it.

I'm amazed by how many people apparently already watched the whole movie and declared it terrible or stupid. I mean, you wouldn't judge a two-hour movie based on a one-minute trailer, would you? Unless Uwe Boll or Michael Bay are involved, I tend to wait until a movie finished production and people are actually able to see the whole thing until I judge it as good or bad (and even then I acknowledge that there is something called 'opinion'). This might not be the best trailer, but I'll never understand people who judge a whole movie or TV show based on the first one-minute trailer or even a still picture from the set.

Edgar Wright - How to Do Visual Comedy

Xaielao says...

Old School is perhaps the best american comedy in a decade. That said, I absolutely agree. Comedy here is very one-dimensional. It's jokes, nothing else. Usually very base ones that everyone will get with a spattering of 'gut-laughs'. I agree one of the biggest reasons as Drachan commented on is just how regimented and formulaic our entertainment is in this country.

This also exemplifies why I am so very torn with Edgar Wright leaving Ant Man and potentially Marvel. He's one of the best directors around and so very inventive. I adored World's End, though my favorite of the 'trilogy' will always be Hot Fuzz.

On the flip side, as a fan of the comic Scott Pilgrim was a terrible movie. He clearly took a lot of creative license with the beloved graphic novel while at the same time totally putting off the audience while at the same time doing nothing to bring in people who have never heard of it previously, which is why it bombed so very hard.

So he left Ant Man, easily one of my top 5 favorite Marvel characters, because of creative differences. I suspect he wanted to do something very different then the established material and Marvel was against that because they want to link him to their other movies (DUH!). So while I think the movie could potentially have been fantastic under his direction, it could just as easily have been marvels biggest bomb since Hulk.
