Ben Folds Five - She Don't Use Jelly (Cover)
The "easy listening" version. This is kind of amusing. These guys are obviously really talented players.
I really miss Sessions @ West 54th Street. I really enjoyed the hosts too, John Hiatt & David Byrne. I will take S@W54 over Austin City Limits any day.
Waiting on the World to Change - John Mayer
The song is easy-listening/pop music which is designed to piss you off, if you listen to it. What he says is annoying/uncomfortable because it's true.
Look, here I am spending time "socializing" with people I will never see in RL, I live in a society sufficiently disjointed that it is nearly infeasible to do any of the things which have historically lead to social change, mass boycotts, labor strikes, or small scale revolts are functionally impossible when the people discussing them are bound in insular virtual communities, and are scattered throughout the world.
I don't like that the song is true, but that does not make me not like the song.
How It's Made: Hacksaw Blades.
As much as I like these "How It's Made" vids, that "nu-age easy listening" background music really annoys me.
Ernie and Bert Rape Your Soul
Holy hell, this reminds me of my friend's car back in high school. It was a Ford Tempo and it had an AM radio with about 10 watts RMS of power and speakers that could handle about 8 W. We would tune it to easy listening stations and crank the volume to maximum. Certain songs, especially from Ann Murray, sounded like heavy metal.
How It's Made - Mirrors
sbchapm, they use that music for all of their segments. i hate this show. its too "to the point" about everything. they dont give any background on the items (the history in this clip was the longest i've ever seen on the show by about 30 seconds)and they play the same crappy easy listening music all the time.
Trailer for Dixie Chicks documentary: "Shut Up and Sing"
Disclaimer: I was never really impressed with the Dixie Chicks. Easy-listening country just isn't my thing, to be fair.
It's important to keep in mind that the Dixie Chicks didn't alienate many of their fans simply by speaking out. They did this by blatantly pandering.
The Dixie Chicks were apolitical in the US, but threw out anti-Bush remarks during concerts in the UK. When news of this got to American fans and a backlash started, Maines publically apologized for the remarks - but when they started getting sympathetic coverage, the band began to posture that they were bravely standing up for their beliefs.
It was effective marketing, but it really was rather transparent to many people.
