Cheech And Chong Vs. Ann Coulter
Yes, Ann, most of us can smoke without the law bearing down upon us. But what about the ones who aren't so lucky? The ones who are ratted out by a jealous ex-girlfriend or the ones who call the cops for help but when the cops find paraphernalia in their house, are subjected to fines and jail time? We legalize things so people don't need to duck and cover and hope for the best.

I am generally pleased with the new Star Trek movie (Blog Entry by swampgirl)
So you're saying that they turned it into a chick flick? *ducks and covers*
Either way, I'm still disappointed they killed the Enterprise series; I think I'll sit this movie out and wait for the next franchise thingy.

TED: Irwin Redlener: How to survive a nuclear attack
1. Don't look at the blast
2. Duck and cover if necessary
3. Move away from the blast as fast as you can
4. Find and stay in the best-sealed shelter you can find until the authorities tell you it's okay
5. Squirt yourself with the garden hose to get the fallout off
Well thanks for that, Bert!
Weird Al Yankovic - Christmas At Ground Zero
>> ^Krupo:
Man, how useless would duck-and-cover actually be? Hmm, reminds me of the Simpsons' skit along those lines. One of my freakiest USA memories is seeing the bomb shleter sign at the bus station in Baltimore...
No, ducking under a desk or behind a wall will not save you from an atomic bomb at ground zero. However, it can protect you from falling debris and shattered glass if you're far enough away to not be vaporized. You do what you can with what you have, y'know.

Retroactive Comment Editing (Sift Talk Post)
You don't like it, gtfo.
Why do you want the ability? For the principle of the thing? To be able to duck and cover, and erase all your steps here? Then DON'T POST.
Quotes can be changed anyway, look:

It's not like we don't have any say in the matter, we did get it changed to 24hours before lockdown.
The Iron Giant Says Goodbye (spoiler!)
"We can duck and cover!"

Kids Home Alone Dumbstruck by Big Small Earthquake
As a kid my reaction in every earthquake was to saunter on up to the inside of a door frame and enjoy the ride because I was always at home during quakes. Don't know that I'd call a kid a coward for having his first instinct be to duck and cover especially considering he may have seen lots of buildings collapsing in earthquakes recently from all the China footage online.
Such natural finger pointing is part of why most people feel to embarrassed to react like their life depends on it, even in a life-threatening situation, because they'll be laughed at. I'd rather be made fun of and live than stand stoic and be destroyed.

Duck and Cover!
Bush fearmongering already proven to be lies
Communists are everywhere! everywhere! They are in every nook and cranny! They lurk in the shadows! Duck and Cover(TM)!
I'm sorry Mr. McCarthy... umm... I mean QuantumMushroom, but the US anti-commie inquisition ended with McCarthy in the 1950's.
Trying to start a new inquisition?
lewis black - nuclear fxxk holocaust
To avoid making this into more of a rant;
1) thanks(?) for calling me a fool. the "mustard gas" example was only for when you are inside your car. i'll change the sentence structure to better reflect that.
2) it's not a fruitless piece of advice to assuage your fears, it is feasible, whereas "duck and cover" isn't (i'm vaguely remembering that this is advice for nuclear attacks?)
3) if a jellyfish stings you, you apply urine to the sting. not ideal, but the alternative is taking the pain. duct tape isn't ideal, but the alternative is dying immediately.
lewis black - nuclear fxxk holocaust
Lewis' point about the "duck and cover" campaign of the 50's is what makes this video poignant. You can argue about whether or not the government's recommendations are legitimate, but in the end it's still just a move out of an old play-book to try and assuage the fears of Americans...or perhaps to do just the opposite to keep everyone on the same page. Regarding the duct tape issue, everyone should have plenty of it regardless of any foreseen use for it. Duct tape is an engineer's best friend, there are an infinite number of uses for it, and if worst comes to worst you can conceivably try to help barricade your home if you have enough warning.
