Amazon Admits Sharing Ring Video With Police

newtboy says...

To prove the point, TMZ obtained Ring Doorbell footage of Philadelphia 76ers player Kelly Oubre Jr. returning home after allegedly being hit by a car.
This included footage inside his home, with audio.
No crime had been committed at the home, and there was no investigatory reason to share the footage with police, and absolutely no excuse for the police selling it to TMZ to air.
Don’t buy Ring unless you want your most private personal activities in your home made public, buy a camera without a back door the manufacturer has had to pay millions for abusing and invading customers privacy for fun.

Kid Gets Caught While Trying to Steal Package

eric3579 says...

I stole a handful of little things when i was a kid. Threw things at cars and doorbell ditched on occasion also. Grew out of that mischief as most of us did. Funny you seem to fixate on the color of his skin and i on his age. Would that make me an ageist and you a racist? Not really sure how that works. Your comment seems pretty weird though. It's kind of an ugly look from where i'm sitting, but i'm hardly an expert on the matter.

Doorbell Captures House Struck by Lightning

ant says...

"There was a thunderstorm with lots of lighting. Our doorbell camera caught our neighbor's house getting directly struck by lightning. It started a small fire which was put out quickly. No-one was harmed. When the lightning strike happened it made our garage door open and also the garage door of a neighbor to the west of the struck house. Fire crews and police responded extremely quickly." from its description.

No Soliciting Sign That Works Like A Charm

newtboy says...

I had a similar sign on my doorbell before I fenced my front yard, but I included a minimum $500 charge clause.
I only had one knock after I put it up, Jehovah's witnesses. They put me on their do not knock list after I opened the door and extended my hand to them palm up.

Awesome Top Gun Twins Halloween Costume

bremnet says...

Yeah, what the hell is that all about? What time are they starting these days - noon? Ring my doorbell before dinner and you get nada. And what happened to Hallowe'en being scary ... if you want to dress up your kids in cute costumes and parade them in front of judges / closet pedophiles, then enter them in Universal Royalty beauty pageants and stop screwing it up for the rest of us who like the tradition of witches, ghosts, goblins and zombies. Would have been pretty easy to show Goose with a good spinal compression fracture and bone sticking out of his neck or a cracked skull or something. Sheesh.

Package Thief Gets A Taste of His Own Medicine

artician says...

I think in the US, some neighborhoods are considered "safe", and others not. It's probably driven by statistics and reports of lost/stolen packages by customers.
As for being home and the package still being at the door, some packages don't require a signature of receipt or person-to-person delivery, it could have been outgoing mail, or they were in the back when the postman rang. The most likely reason is that most delivery people are too lazy/busy/overworked that they will just assume you're not home because (statistically) most people aren't during the day, they'll dutifully ring the doorbell, drop the package, and hoof it back to their vehicle to get to the next address as fast as possible.

Not entirely their fault. I've seen those poor dudes out running around on duty at 9pm at night now.

What I don't get is who leaves packages at your door, particularly if you're home like this couple was. Is this an American thing? When I'm not home for a package delivery whether it's Canada Post, UPS, or Purolator I get a notice of attempted delivery and an address to go to to pick it up myself.

Solicitors Begone

newtboy says...

Nice. I just have a sign on my door stating -

The owners of this house offer consulting services. We will provide our consulting services to solicitors, canvassers, proselytizers, or others offering goods, services, or information, but only at our emergency rate of $100 an hour, with a 2 hour minimum charge, payment due in cash up front, knocking or ringing the doorbell indicates acceptance of these terms.

I've only had one solicitor since putting up the sign 15 years ago, and they didn't have the $200 cash, so they got an ear full and were told that their church would be getting the bill. No more Jehovah's witnesses for me! Now I have a secure gate and a dog, so the sign rarely gets read.

As much as I'm a fan of anal sex, I can't condone it here because I detest controlling female sexuality. You gotta ring Satan's doorbell hard or keep your pants on.

I thought it was related, but that's not the whole story either since obviously if you hook your doorbell's solonoid to an AC current the striker will just sit and vibrate in place rather than shooting out and dinging the bell.

Starting to get a bit off-topic though.

Look up magnetic blowout.

The plasma moves because of the magnetic fields. I think, just like when you energize a coil and a metal rod moves one direction to ring a doorbell.

Plasma conducts electricity, so in that circumstance it can become self sustaining by shorting out the two wires. It must have had enough resistance to avoid blowing the fuse. I'm not really sure why it's moving though, perhaps magnetic effects? Wind? Down-hill?

Anyone?
