Make America Great Again

The Pogues "Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah"

ulysses1904 says...

A sad footnote, I just read that Phil Chevron died of cancer in 2013. He wrote some great songs like "Thousands are Sailing".

And "Rabinga", from the "Straight To Hell" soundtrack. That was a bizarre movie, with The Pogues, Joe Strummer, Courtney Love, Dennis Hopper, Grace Jones in a spaghetti western in Almeria, Spain.

That's my kind of party!
I also didn't see it in theaters. We probably also saw it on hbo and fell in love, I don't really recall. I know I taped it back then, and may still have the vhs copy in the garage, but I bought the directors cut DVD for my wife when it came out.

The Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken scene is one of the best scenes in modern cinema imo.

EDIT: btw, I'm still confused....what exactly is a Drexel?

The Walking Dead Season 3 Comic-Con Trailer

noims says...

Agreed. Season 2 was a big of a drag. So long as they push the pace up this could be very good. Great material there, so long as... <slight spoilers follow>

... so long as they get The Governor and Michonne right. I had him as a Dennis Hopper type, played nasty by Antonio Banderas, or maybe Michael Wincott a la The Crow, but anyone straight out of Deliverance (the film, or the idea) would work.

Fear The Living indeed.

Looks good. I'm just curious if they're going to stretch the prison across one season or two.

Madonna on David Letterman - 1994

ulysses1904 says...

I was there in the audience for this. My friend and I had tickets and originally Dennis Hopper was supposed to be the main guest. We heard on the radio that morning that Madonna was going on instead and we got in line early, as they always overbook the audience. Paul Schaefer and the band play really loud during the commercial breaks, it was a lot of fun to be there. My buddy and I knew she was being obnoxious just for the publicity, and sure enough her face was on the cover of every NY newspaper the next day.

100 Greatest Movie Threats of All Time

Payback says...

I must say, I am somewhat relieved that a movie with Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken exists and I have not seen it. For I would have to end my life afterwards, due to the complete impossibility of finding anything to top it. It is comforting to know such Awesome exists in the world, and is a strong argument for a Creator, as the possibility such could be wrought through pure chance is staggeringly small.

MINISTRY-NWO- live -FUCKING AMAZING @!

BoneRemake says...

per wikipedia:
"N.W.O." (New World Order) is a song by the Industrial metal band Ministry, released as the second single off the album Psalm 69. The single was Ministry's biggest hit, topping out on the Billboard Modern Rock chart at #11.

The song is a protest against then President George H. W. Bush. The song features audio samples of his voice, with him repeating "A new world order" over and over again at the end of the song. At this point of the song in the video, Bush is portrayed by an actor with an enormous papier-mâché head, grabbing his crotch and waving his arms. The majority of the video is a mix of police beatings, riots, and gunfights. It also includes a scene in which a woman dressed as the Statue of Liberty is beaten by police in a manner similar to the famous amateur video of Rodney King being beaten by police.

The music video was featured on Beavis and Butt-Head along with Just One Fix off the same album, although the credits for each song call the album "Psalms 69".

"N.W.O." was featured in the soundtrack of the film Cool World (Songs from the Cool World).

"It's alright! It's alright!" in the song is a clip of Dennis Hopper in Apocalypse Now when he first greets the PBR boat.

Mario Bros. Movie Trailer

xxovercastxx says...

Some of these are blatantly obvious, but I wanted to compile a list of the references, parodies and tributes in the video.

@0:14 "What's with the masks? You guys shy?" probably refers to Shyguys, one of the basic enemies in SMB2.
@0:36 "Enough [coins] to buy 10,000 new lives." refers to the free life you would receive for each 100 coins you collected.
@0:56 "Well excuuuse me, princess!" is from the Legend of Zelda cartoon.
@1:01 "...Bowser, the king of the koopas." If I remember correctly, Bowser didn't get his name until SMB3. He was known only as "King Koopa" in SMB1.
@1:13 "Minus World"
@1:16 "Shit just got real" and the camera work are a scene from Bad Boys 2.
@1:25 "Here's the cash, you reptile." refers to Bowser being a giant turtle in the games. The scene being set in a dinosaur exhibit may be a reference to the real Super Mario Bros movie where the villain (Dennis Hopper) was actually some sort of evolved dinosaur.
@1:30 "Your princess is in another castle." is the infamous line uttered by every toadstool upon being rescued at the end of each world.
@1:38 "It's a trap!"
@2:16 "Now you're playing with power" was the tagline for the original Nintendo.
@3:40 The music Mario is whistling is part of the overworld and underwater themes from Super Mario World. I want to say I remember it being in SMB3, but I can't find or remember where.
@3:52 "It'sa me, Mario!" was something of a catchphrase of Mario's for a while. The cartoon was the first place I can remember hearing it.

What have I missed? I suspect there's a lot of movie references that I didn't catch.
