I dig what he does, but he takes it so far that you just want him to go play in a freeway. This is the same guy who was detained by airport security in 2002 for his "enhancements", and made such a huge stink about it he looked like a fool.

This is coming from someone who thinks airport security is essentially the Wests version of terrorists and cultural trash. In all fairness to him, I give no slack to the security industry and the practices they pursue (to this day), but in the last 10+ years "unimpressed" is essentially what sums up his work and talk.

What do I get from this trailer?

PG-13 "death" scene. All he does is get blown up in a car, not the extremely violent and painful death of Alex Murphy from the original film goes through, the trigger in him remembering his previous life and becoming more than just an emotionless robot/cyborg. The trigger in this? His family. Yawn. They turn one of the most important scenes from the original into "boom". Also leads me to believe this'll be a PG-13 puss-fest.

Face time! The vanity of celebrities or producers that think they need to have the star's face plastered throughout the entire film (massive props for Karl Urban and the director of Dredd for sticking with the fact Dredd never shows his face). In the original, once he was RoboCop, you only ever see his face until the end. It was a good visual reminder to the audience that he was human, to reinforce that now he's reclaiming some of humanity.

It IS a powersuit. Rather than literally being a human brain in a robot as the original is, you see it's just a guy in a suit with a robot leg and arm (his bare hand and his "face in a helmet" looks ridiculous). Kinda weakens the human mind battling the robot programming aspect of the plot. Especially considering it seems he's all emo as soon as he wakes up "What have you done to me! WAH WAH!"

Where's the satire? Sure it may be hard to wedge in satirical aspects in a trailer, but I have a feeling there'll be none of it in this one. The tone is completely different and feels very generic.

Granted this is just a trailer, but it feels like this is nothing more than a generic action movie with the same name as an old beloved cult classic. I'm not against reboots, but if you plan to reboot something successful, two things need to be kept in tact: The tone and feel, and key aspects to the plot. I'd love to see more RoboCop, this isn't it.

The original Robocop film was awesome, very surprised how different the new version looks - he looks more like a guy in a costume than a robotic cyborg. They could really do with a narrow visor across the eyes like the original just to give us some familiarity. Not sure what to make of this reboot yet other than the new look is awful!

Seems to be you can't really add senses without infringing upon our already existing ones. In his case he uses some of his hearing "bandwidth" to perceive colour. Maybe one day we'll be able to wire in completely new senses, but I don't imagine that will be soon.

Tbh, I consider us all to be psuedo-cyborgs because of our phone apps not in spite of them. We are all almost always connected with a wealth of utilities at our finger tips, some of which you could say broaden our senses. Do we need to implant microchips in our brain when carrying a device that fits in your hand is just that much more convenient - and you can opt out at any time. I think we are heading to headsupdisplays and truly hands-free interfacing. Does that make it more of a part of us than it is already? I'm not so sure tbh. Whats the advantage of putting it under your skin when it'll still be piggybacking off existing senses?

Anyway, transhumanism is fascinating. I hope we survive long enough.

They did a similar thing to operate on a brain tumour close to some guys speech centre I think. Had him talking and asked him to correctly identify shapes etc throughout so that they knew what they had to cut and what had to stay. If I remember correctly he went into a coma after the op but made a full recovery. Pretty amazing.

Also fuck flying cars, we have cyborgs right now.

Fantastic, i have to say i'm a bit disappointed i didn't see any of those cyborg style limb assisting exoskeleton jobs. Hoped they'd started to come in.

And went into a pitch black tunnel with no headlight. Little things like that take me out of this. Foliage in the high rises was major overkill,(full trees? Seriously?) the chaser plane and even the seeker missiles it dropped had apocalyptic rust on them...

You guys didn't get that he was some kind of cyborg that controlled technology with his hands? And yes, given enough time, trees will grow anywhere.
I would be more skeptical of a skinny hipster surviving the apocalypse, along with his own suicidal style of motorcycle riding.

The real funny thing was, that his bike had perfect traction on a road with decades of dirt, plants and potholes created by the plants - with tires that seemed to be at least 40 years old.
