This guy is a countertenor. And he's a pretty good one too. That said, I don't think this is his most impressive performance. Still, it's entertaining.

He knows a fair bit more than that, methinks.. he seems to be the only judge on television who actually knows wtf they're talking about. In this instance, perhaps not so much.. but I agree it sounded odd. I enjoy Britain's Got Talent for giving a chance to these people who challenge our preconceived notions of what forms talent comes in.
