Batman vs. Darth Vader

poolcleaner says...

Cool video. But, as a Batman fan I downvote this on principle alone. Detective Comics, FEATURING Batman. Not, Batman sometimes -- Batman ALL of the time. You just don't ki... -- SPOILER ALERT --

Batman is a detective above all other things. This is Hollywood brute force shallow understanding Batman. He has the intuition to study his enemies physical weapon, yet not to understand the power of the dark side? Not the Batman I know. He would likely have not placed himself in that situation in the first place, or would have hunted down a relic or a friend with powers to combat Vadar's force powers.

Also, no reference to "fear" leading to anger... Batman's use of fear has even made him a candidate for Sinestro Corps' yellow power ring. Batman IS fear. If this series is against Batman's frequent use of other heroes, he would have gone out of his way to study the force himself, embrace the dark side for which he already serves, and THEN fucking force crush Vadar into submission. Pitiful.

Good video, poor writing based on an inferior understanding of the Batman. This is a video supposedly based on nerd cred, so wtf I have to put my nerd rage somewhere.

I shudder at the future of Batman. Ben Affleck, nooooooooooo... Daredevil... Batman... WHAT NEXT! And, yes, I despise all of the movie Batmen. None are the equal of the actual Batman.

Skateboarding Time Collapse: Shot with the Lumia 930

The crazy part: there are zero CG elements in this video...

Well, that depends on what you mean by CG elements. The whole thing is a composite shot that has been stitched together on a computer.

But I guess they mean rendered CGI models... in which case, I would ask why that's so crazy? I mean, it's a cool video and some pretty *skillful skating, but I didn't see anything that would require any kind of animation.

cool video, great concept. Terrible camera. It looks nice every time they set the camera down, but it looks terrible when in motion, and considering the amount of times it's actually moving, it brings the quality down quite a few notches.

Word. Cool video though.

I have no idea what you're whining about.

The video on this page is an embed of the video on the L3-G0 channel on YouTube. The content is not copied; the original source video is embedded directly.

No one is obligated to include all the text content they find alongside a video when embedding it elsewhere. Get over yourself.

Thanks It was interesting hearing the thought processes behind the changes to youtube. I wonder if they're measuring the wrong things though? I am certainly less engaged now than I used to be... I used to sometimes find cool videos to post from the yt related vids, but now find only more of the same. I haven't been led to the weird side of youtube BY youtube since shortly after Google acquired them.

Now I find the weird side of youtube via LiveLeak!

I'd either like a user preference to either give me back the old non-personalised related vids, or a button to show the weird side of yt.

Hand Made Beautiful Dining Room Table - The Priceless Gift

Sniper007 says...

I did this exact same thing - that is, build a hand made dining room table for my wife. I didn't care about using reclaimed lumber, but I did want to avoid using glues. I used lag bolts and screws - I figured it would last longer than glue. Also, I used about 1/10th the number of tools he used. But I did use a sawsall and a drill.

I used all pine, but did a faux aging process with vinegar and steel wool, and black tea. It turned out awesome (after 12+ coats of spar varnish on the top... ug). I have two matching benches. It's all very rustic, durable, and functional.

Very cool video!

U.S. Patent #1329559 A ~ Tesla's Valvular Conduit

Sniper007 says...

The pump would still be there. It's just the two vavles that would be replaced. The actual piston would be (almost) the same in it's form and function.

So there would be no moving parts in the VALVES. The pump would still be a major, important moving part that would need to be serviced. But you are eliminating two points of very common failure with tesla's design.

If they were able to produce a prototype valve that was 5x to 10x the size of the one in the video, I might be interested in buying...

That is really really really cool. Videos do need audio though.

I must shamedfacedly admit I had no idea I couldn't promote someone else's very cool video. Thank you for the gentle tutorial!
I thought siftbot was knocking me down because my "powerpoints" needed recharging--now, I am enlightened.

Thank you!

I assume you are well aware that you can't invoke *promote for another sifters video although I've seen you do this quite a bit. I assume you have seen the response by siftbot to your invocation.

I also assume you are doing this to show support for the videos(which is great) but I find it odd that you don't vote for these videos. A much better way to show you like the video imo.
Anyway the only reason i bring it up is it seems to me to be clutter in a comment thread as siftbot will always respond to your invocation which you can't invocate anyway. If you really feel the need to use promote in the comment thread you dont need to use the asterisk that will invoke a response from siftbot or you can first say promote then after you submit the comment, edit the comment and add the asterisk. This way you will not get siftbot to respond.
Just my two cents and thanks for all your contributions to the sift they are appreciated.

The Rolling Stones-Angie

Trout says...

Not to nitpick, but this really shouldn't be tagged as Live Music.

Jagger is lip-synching (nicely), Mick Taylor is fake playing Nicky Hopkins' awesome piano part, and Keith Richards isn't even onstage with the rest of the band (he appears in just a few cutaways). And, of course, there's no audience.

This is one of the promo videos that the Stones shot for the '73 single version of Angie (which is the version of the song we're hearing). Still a really cool video, and nice to have on the Sift.

SODA / POP / COKE (Dialect Map of the USA)

eric3579 says...

I have to call into question the area they said Bart was used when referring to "what do you call a public railway system(normally underground)". They did not highlight the actual area where Bart runs (The San Francisco bay area) but an area where Bart doesn't even exist. Seems like if anyone was to say Bart it would be in the area Bart was available.

-edit-
Information came from these maps and on the Bart issue the maps had it right but the video goofed it. Its #104 http://spark.rstudio.com/jkatz/SurveyMaps/ (where the video said it got its info from)

Then again maybe I'm being way to nit-picky as I'm guessing some would say it's close enough. That all being said it is quite the cool video.
