Chrissie Hynde, DEVO, Trent Reznor (technically from PA, but his NIN project started in Cleveland, so I count him as Ohio), Marilyn Manson, and Black Keys just to name ones off the top of my head... Cabela's is a sporting (as in hunting/fishing type activities, no athletics) goods catalog business. They expanded from that into a few really huge stores of over 200,000 square feet, recent stores are closer to 80,000-100,000. The really big stores were travel destinations for sporting enthusiasts. I'm not sure about the smaller ones, but the big 225,000 size stores had restaurants. Most of the stores have a large "conservation mountain" of mounted animals, some have aquariums (the one in Columbus has a 5,000 gallon one). I think some of them even had climbing walls. Other chain stores that have similar things are Bass Pro Shops, Gander Mountain...

My step father is a taxidermist and sportsman, so he gets the catalog. He's never done work for them, though he's done some for one of the local stores. I haven't seen a catalog for a long time, so either he stopped getting it or they stopped sending it out in mass and use their online store as the catalog was probably expensive.

To your point about Christopher Columbus, when I was in High School I found this out when I was given "A People's History of the United States." The reason why it was compelling to me was the shear volume of material on the subject as well as it's references. In contrast my history book had one paragraph on Christopher Columbus's finding of the nation, it was preposterous.

The only time I remember anything remotely [playful] roughhouse-y with MY male parental unit was during a big storm on a Columbus Day when "dear old dad" took my sister and I out on the front lawn to swing us around by the wrists in 60+ MPH winds. Good times? Better than a beating!

You could also blame books and homing pigeons -- Encyclopedia sets? Libraries? I spent many hours of my time as a child reading in these original information databases. I feel like the internet just brought a bunch of base fucks into a spectrum of reality that has always existed. Fucks that normally wouldn't spend their time consuming information in a database. Fucks that would market the shit out of every aspect of it. The perception of this video is a direct result of our internet being ground into dust.

At its mid-range potential, the internet is not much different than a library. I recall a lot of book-learned facts which are plain WRONG, including false and biased information, and unlabeled, incorrectly scaled maps being fairly constant. Yay Christopher Columbus! One of my best friends is a librarian and the major difference he sees between Wikipedia and published books is that published books require new editions to replace outdated and incorrect information, potentially screwing over human memory for as long as that book isn't burned. The key is to avoid nonstop popular culture and focus on the vast educational potential of the internet.
