They're trying to find who amongst a bunch of reputedly "pure" public personalities will look the longest in total while they wait for the elevator doors to close. So yeah, it's not like they really win anything except being made fun of. But that's the whole point of the show : finding a bunch of useless facts about public personalities in a myriad of crazy categories. Don't get me wrong though, it's pretty damn funny, even more so when you understand Japanese.

By the way, it's not a game show but more of a parody award show. Also, the segment in question is a classic Japanese "candid camera" type thing.

What kind of crap is this? It's like candid-camera racist edition. Talk about entrapment, so if you stage a murder or rape and then ask why people didn't intervene or praise them for jumping in is that ok? I don't think so. Go find stores where this is happening, tape them, expose them and demand justice!! Don't create some made of situation and get people worked up over your "experiment". Life is too short. What a pile of absolute contrived crap.....

I don't know whether to pay them respect for their willingness to go along with absurdities (and have fun doing so), or sympathize with them for being so desperate for a job that they're willing to humiliate themselves.

Either way, it makes for a pretty good candid camera clip.

Ya, pranks get played on normal, non-criminal types all the time. I don't see why setting up a bike thief for some hilarity is any less funny. I take it when you watched candid camera or someone creeps up behind you and says BOO you wouldn't have the same type of righteous indignation. I mean sociopathic behavior? Really? I would wager that theft is more against society then some humor at their expense.

Pseudo-vigilantism? Pseudo-vigilantism technically refers to controversial cases of self-defense, of which this has nothing to do with. Nor is this Neo-vigilantism which refers to bounty hunting and lynchings. No, this isn't any type of illegal law enforcement at all. I don't think this word means what you want it to mean. You are trying to make a stronger sounding case by using flowery words.

Totally disagree. Tae Kwon Do mime sees a dude in sunglasses running like a thief would from guy who's yelling after him, makes a judgment call, decides to stop him... very effectively. Most of the force of that hit was the dude running into his foot, anyway. These Candid Camera guys know the risks of fuckin' with people. No sympathy.

Ah, I thought when I saw it that it was too good to be true that no-one had sifted it... and it was.
