Puppy Determined To Get On Treadmill

Interesting that A10anis keeps citing "the data and statistics", and yet hasn't cited a single datum or statistic. Although completely unrelated to knowledge of dog attacks, his shocking ignorance of exercise physiology (the relationship between long duration aerobic exercise and muscle catabolism is pretty well established -- exhaust your Glucose stores, and your body starts breaking down muscle and fat to keep your body moving) doesn't help his case much.

I haven't studied the "inherent violence" of the American Pit Bull Terrier to any great extent, so without any actual data, who knows whether or not they truly are "inherently violent". What I can say is that there are a number of breeds that are commonly mistaken for the Pit Bull, and dog attacks by any breed that vaguely looks like a Pit Bull often get called a "Pit Bull Attack" in the media. I have never owned a Pit, but my interactions with the breed suggest that they are very mellow and gentle: the polar opposite of, say, the highly strung, yappy, and territorial Chihuahua. The difference however is that if you piss a Chihuahua off it's not going to be able to do much to hurt you, whereas an angry Pit Bull can kill you. Of course, this is all just conjecture from anecdote, but until someone actually posts some data, that's all we have to go on.

Kid Attacked by Pet Dog in Street

A10anis says...

Looked like a rottweiler cross. Just another example why dogs initially bred for their ferocity, tenacity, and fighting ability, should be totally banned. Chipping and/or licensing will not work, they will be ignored. And PLEASE don't drag out the old argument that it is the owners fault. Of course, any dog can be made vicious, but these dogs are not bought by owners who want a companion. They have owners who want them for protection, intimidation and status. These dogs are highly strung, impulsive, unpredictable, and give little, if any, warning that they are about to strike. How many adults, children, police, or other dogs, need to be maimed before action is taken? Look at the statistics on the breeds that attack. The latest one shows that guide dog attacks have gone up to 8 a month and the breeds, generally, responsible are fighting dogs. I own a Tamaskan (A big dog derived from sled dog ancestry). There are four bull terriers in my neighborhood and when we pass EVERY one of them strains, snarling and growling to get at him. I pray each time that their leads don't break.

Dog Nurses Goats with Milk Underpants. No Lie.

bareboards2 says...

From the poster on YouTube. I think the dog was okay, @MikesHL13

Actually, Gladys was not trained for her session with the Milk Pants. The idea evolved from the fact that Gladys was completely obsessed with the baby goats, she licked them from the moment they were born, & accompanied us to bottle feed them 3 times a day – never missing a session. She cleaned all the little dribbles of milk as they drank & just adored them, lying super still on the ground while they pounced on her when they were small & running with them as they got bigger & bouncier. cont'd

We joked that she would love to feed them herself, if only there was a way for her to hold the bottles. Practice for the video consisted of a failed attempt with a rigged bottle harness – she was too short & bottle angle was wrong, & what you see in the footage. She was less than a year old, & the words stand/stay were not in her vocabulary. She just stood on the hay & wore the pants while we taped & arranged goats.

Bull Terriers are certainly not known for doing things that they don't want to. . .

Scorpion vs. Black Widow ~ Intense, sheesh!!!

xxovercastxx says...

Wow, the signal to noise ratio on this debate is terrible. There's a couple statements here I was interested in replying to; some serious and some not so.

therealblankman...this is worse, barely passes the "no snuff videos" rule...hmmmmm...

You can't be serious. Not only does that video not show loss of human life, but there wasn't even any loss of life off-camera. That encounter wasn't planned for amusement, it was an event that unfolded naturally and just happened to be caught on film. The participants also had an important option that our arachnids here did not: run the fuck away.

Next fight should be Scorpion vs Brown Recluse

Brown recluse spiders are not aggressive and generally attempt to escape or hide from threats. That's why they call them recluse. No doubt you've seen photos of a necrotic brown recluse bite and somehow got the idea that they are vicious fighters. Bites rarely turn necrotic and when they do, it takes several days. Your proposed fight would be roughly equivalent to a Staffordshire bull terrier vs a mallard duck with avian flu. The dog might get sick and die later, but it's going to rip that duck to pieces.

Sorry for causing controversy

Controversy is nothing to be sorry about. All the best moments here start with some controversy. It's the quality, or lack thereof, of many of the posts that people should be sorry about.

It's called NATURE. If you can't handle it, then stay the fuck out of this channel. What next, are you going to bitch and cry about a video showing a lion taking down a zebra in Africa? "Oh, that's cruel!"

It's been called nature, yes, but I fail to see the natural aspect of a cage deathmatch. As I implied above, most animals will try to escape when faced with death. That's what you might call a natural reaction. The spider attempts to put distance between it and the scorpion a couple times, but it can't because it's trapped.

If anyone could understand humanity, it's a "military man." I guarantee I've seen and experienced WAY more shit than you ever will. I've seen shit that would make normal people gag, seen stuff that would give people nightmares for months, and experienced things that would warm the coldest of hearts all in one week.

MG, let me preface my actual statement. I do this because what I'm about to say may well offend you and that's not my intention, though it's probably unavoidable. I think I speak for the majority here, that I respect your sacrifices and service to our country. I also respect your opinions and acknowledge that if it weren't for people like you, we may not have the right to have opinions.

However, none of this places you above us. I realize that you've been brainwashed to believe that you are the ultimate form of human, but the only people who believe that are the other people who were brainwashed with you. In the past 10 years or so, I've known several people who've been in the corp. They've all come out with the same superiority mentality. We all know you've had unique experiences and have unique insights, but so has everyone. Stop trying to be everyone's drill sergeant and just have a discussion. You're not impressing anyone.

The sift will sift what it feels is appropriate or not. Since this video doesn't break any of those rules. It shall be...

I'm downvoting this, myself. I don't believe it breaks any of our rules, and it doesn't even particularly offend me, I just find it has no value. If I wanted to watch lower life forms crawl all over each other, I'd go download the Paris Hilton sex tape. This isn't an insightful look at nature, except maybe the nature of immature boys. It's not entertaining, funny, creative, educational or anything else I believe the sift seeks to represent.

Pit Bull Myths

drattus says...

Damn, you've got a point Bill Took the time to check myself and found this in wiki of all places.

"Although the name causes confusion, Bull Terriers are not directly related to American Pit Bull Terriers. Both breeds do, however, descend from the same ancestors."

Been a long time since I was a kid, 44 now, I guess I forgot that distinction and my wife had already gone to bed by the time it came up. She questioned it so got me to check. That still leaves us with a similar description from the bulldogbreeds page for the pit bull terrier, "Known for their intelligence and loyalty American Pit Bull Terriers make excellent, loving and protective companions despite the unfair press they receive".

Sorry for the confusion.

Pit Bull Myths

drattus says...

Actually they are. There is no such breed as a "pit bull", the Bull Terrier was called that because they were used for pit fighting. It's also called the Pit Bull Terrier. Pit bull for short or slang. Here it is from bulldogbreeds.com

http://www.bulldogbreeds.com/americanpitbullterrier.html

As I said in my first post my wife is a dog groomer and I used to work with them when I was a kid but there was no money or future in it for me, didn't stop the love of animals though. Vet tech trained and the whole nine yards.

There is some disagreement on if the Staffordshire Terrier should be included as well, they are dual registered in some places over it.

Pit Bull Myths

drattus says...

My wife and I both have experience with this breed, her as a lifelong dog groomer and me as a kennel worker when we were kids. They can be some very sweet animals and aren't naturally aggressive toward people, the owners even stay in the ring with their animals as they fight.

An animal aggressive toward people was probably abused by them, the other likely cause being inbred or poorly bred and just for the ring. Shepards and Dobermans went through a rough time period too due to poor breeding. Well bred and well treated (pit) Bull Terriers are sweet animals.
