Vermont Becomes The First State To Pass Wolf PAC Resolution

My_design says...

Can someone explain to me why...
PAC's are bad, bad, evil things supported by companies that use their money to influence politicians to get their way - destroy the environment, screw over employees and in general try to generate as much revenue as possible, but Unions are good groups that exert control over a ton of votes and money that they donate to politicians who in turn award them with generous pensions and benefits that bankrupt the State. So why don't we get Unions out of elections as well as PACs? Look at all the commercials during election seasons that are sponsored by the Teachers Union, Police Union, Firefighters Union, Ditch Diggers Union, on and on and on. Its to the point where the PAC and the Union commercials have become a blur.

Fighting Racism In Sports For All Races... Well Almost All

poolcleaner says...

You're justifying your inability to spend time with people of other races because of "shared experiences" with other white people? Buuuuuuuull-shiiiiiiiiiit. I've found that I have common ground with just about anyone in the world, just involves me trying to be a good human being and not being afraid of disagreeing or having conversation with people of differing view points. Most of my friends are worlds apart and it doesn't matter. Birds of a feather -- die together. (Whoa, that was way more ominous than intended.)

But I do agree, the banning, and fining of Donald Sterling is akin to punishing someone for thought crime. I don't understand how a comment made in private could be used in such a way. I don't agree with his racist views, or in your justified segregation, but I don't think it's a wise decision, nor a justified one, to punish anyone for having such views or even for expressing them in public, let alone private.

If you don't like someone's you have the right to ignore them and to NOT give them your money, and to convince others to shun that person. But that should NOT givbe any institution the right to go after anything in your estate.

Our justice system is a sham of personal opinion blurred into pseudo civil rights.

Anyway, people shouldn't be afraid to express their views, even if it's offensive to others.

Being stuck between political correct asshats AND conservative christian fuckbags is the real crime -- and I should be able to collect money from racist bigots AND the NAACP. (Just kidding.)

They are not eradicating racism. They are only eradicating any personal expression of belief. Banning Donald Sterling from the NBA is right out of 1984.
Racism can only be eradicated by a realization that all people are created of God.
Personally, I will still gravitate toward white people, just as black people gravitate toward black people. It is due to shared experience.
When the movie Planet of the Apes was being filmed and the actors went off to eat lunch, the gorillas sat with the gorillas, the chimps sat with the chimps, and the orangutans sat with their fellows. It wasn't racism, it was shared experience.

I've known cops my whole life -- 1 ex-girlfriend's father, as well as a household of them in my family; serving the church and the state equally. And all of them lawful evil. Assholes with stories about being assholes. I'm sorry, but fuck you if you're a cop.

I don't care if you're a "good" cop. I've watched so-called good cops follow shitty orders and realize at the end of the mess that they had done wrong. This goes on CONSTANTLY; not simply a one-off, "oh cops are people too" scenario.

Not to mention their highway banditry.

Until the current state of police training and enforcement methods are reevaluated and they return rights to citizens, I cannot abide their involvement in domestic disputes and highway enforcement.

Sure, they save us from the evil that men would do, but as they currently stand, the American police force is a bastion and a playground for bullies that want to remain above the law.

And their internal affairs system allows this to persist. No transparency, which means the law is always blurred for their benefit. Luckily evidence beyond a reasonable doubt sometimes surfaces. Sometimes.

The Easiest Way To Avoid The Kiss Cam

JiggaJonson says...

What Work Is

We stand in the rain in a long line
waiting at Ford Highland Park. For work.
You know what work is--if you're
old enough to read this you know what
work is, although you may not do it.
Forget you. This is about waiting,
shifting from one foot to another.
Feeling the light rain falling like mist
into your hair, blurring your vision
until you think you see your own brother
ahead of you, maybe ten places.
You rub your glasses with your fingers,
and of course it's someone else's brother,
narrower across the shoulders than
yours but with the same sad slouch, the grin
that does not hide the stubbornness,
the sad refusal to give in to
rain, to the hours wasted waiting,
to the knowledge that somewhere ahead
a man is waiting who will say, "No,
we're not hiring today," for any
reason he wants. You love your brother,
now suddenly you can hardly stand
the love flooding you for your brother,
who's not beside you or behind or
ahead because he's home trying to
sleep off a miserable night shift
at Cadillac so he can get up
before noon to study his German.
Works eight hours a night so he can sing
Wagner, the opera you hate most,
the worst music ever invented.
How long has it been since you told him
you loved him, held his wide shoulders,
opened your eyes wide and said those words,
and maybe kissed his cheek? You've never
done something so simple, so obvious,
not because you're too young or too dumb,
not because you're jealous or even mean
or incapable of crying in
the presence of another man, no,
just because you don't know what work is.

Ruin Your Day

Thumper says...

Except when you have a penis, and you're programmed to find them comforting and nourishing. Then one day you realize they're on the opposite sex and you deal with attraction and sex. All of a sudden everything gets blurred and you have found the recipe for why tits are difficult not to look at. Oh and never mind society pushes women to dress sexy which in turn put's "the girls" out on display more and more. To be fair I look at tits in a sweatshirt and still think/ wonder compulsively. So even if they weren't out on display as much as they are these days I still would still gaze shamelessly. IMO women need to deal with their issues concerning their breasts and men are completely fine where we are. I won't have someone tell me what to think and I won't have someone tell me what I can and can't look at. That's disgusting, not the act of looking at tits.

How the Media Failed Women in 2013

dannym3141 says...

This might be throwing a bit of a lit match into the whole thing, but there has been a lot of discussion about how "the media" failed women, and how some sort of unseen force is trying to keep women down, or even men.

At some point in the production of any music video you care to point a finger at, some women have been quite happy to accept money in exchange for portraying whatever it is that certain people are unhappy about.

I have to insist that the question is asked - does everyone WANT equality? There are a lot of women out there quite happy to make a lot of money based on photoshop'd depictions of how they might look in a make believe world. Or to dance around in their smalls, trying their very best to MAKE men interested in their sexual prowess. Their primary money making skill is sexual.

So before we criticise this invisible and possibly make-believe machine that systematically holds women down, how about we consider the individual decisions of prominent women? The women in the blurred lines video weren't forced at gunpoint to strip off and dance around titillating viewers, they accepted payment for a job and did what they were paid for knowing full well that young girls might be watching and imitating them, or whatever.

I mean, great job insulting the hell out of the producer of the video or the choreographer or the guy who made up the song. But all they did was write out a script or imagine out a vision of something they would consider sexually appealing. How about blaming the vacuous bints that wobbled their tits around without considering the consequences?

Perhaps not everyone WANTS equality. Men or women, but women are the easy example; perhaps some or perhaps even many women WANT to be able to use their bodies to gain interest from men or money. If that is the case - as it is for "sexy" music videos, photo shoots, modelling contracts or anything you care to name that involves a complicit woman representing an apparently undesirable or harmful skill - then it is equally unfair to force "equality" on those who do not want it. I see everyone as a person - all equal. And if someone wants to accept payment for wobbling their bits around then that's their decision until it becomes illegal, and it's ridiculous to turn around and say "oh how terribly oppressive of <someone else> for paying that women to flaunt herself." She accepted the fucking cash and did it. She could have pursued any career she wanted. It isn't like she had no other choice.

Additionally, I'm not going to even enter into any discussion that involves "rape" or terms akin to "rape culture" (what a bullshit term) because i actually believe that it detracts hugely from actual acts of rape and the pursuit of justice and prevention of rape.

@Trancecoach
@vadeosaft

I agree with you on a lot of these points about men, but you are using the vilification/ignorance surrounding the portrayals of men in the media to justify the portrayal of women in the media. Neither set of stereotypes is preferable, but justifying one bad portrayal by saying "men have it just as bad or worse" doesn't make for a good argument.

@Stu
I don't know what you're referring to. Here is what I found:
http://www.esquire.com/blogs/culture/emily-ratajkowski-interview-blurred-lines
This?
That's not really an explanation of what the song is about. And if it's supposed to be poking fun at those types of stereotypes, I feel they did a poor job. Come on, this is a far cry from A Modest Proposal in terms of sarcastic social criticism.

How the Media Failed Women in 2013

JiggaJonson says...

@Trancecoach I'd like to see a female equivalent (or worse) of the Rob Thicke video where he's fully clothed dancing around actually naked women doing things like:

Blowing smoke in their faces
Making them feign humping dogs
Holding little stop signs in their ass (because they want him to stop but he knows they want it)
Spelling out "Rob Thicke has a big dick" (clit? for the female version that doesn't exist as far as I know)

Not to mention the whole song is basically mirrors date rape and forcing yourself on women. http://thesocietypages.org/socimages/2013/09/17/from-the-mouths-of-rapists-the-lyrics-of-robin-thickes-blurred-lines-and-real-life-rape/

Yeah... good luck finding something MORE poorly portrayed, as you put it, where men are featured.

TotalBiscuit | Let's not play Need for Speed: Rivals

Jinx says...

People hear that the flicker fusion threshold is about 16hz, and that movies play at 24hz so they assume that there must be no benefit to higher framerates. Ofc, movies have a lot of motion blur to make the movement appear more smooth and quite often a TV will have sophisticated tech to make the lower framerates on TV shows appear smoother than they actually are. Computer monitors, for the most part, show sharp images and we sit closer to them so low frame rates are much more noticeable. The rods and cones in our eyes might have a "fresh rate" of 16hz (I think rods actually respond much faster, but w.e) but they aren't synchronised like a camera. Our eyes will detect light, or any changes in it pretty much instantaneously. You don't have to wait for the next refresh. At what point our brain, or the variance in latency of the optic nerve, become the limiting factors I don't know. I'd like to think we wouldn't have evolved such advanced optical receptors only to be bottle necked by our brains. In short: 120hz ftw.

My absolute greatest peeve with console ports is mouse settings though. The number of times I've had to delve into the .ini to disable mouse acceleration or set my sensitivity to something sensible. Sometimes even the .ini doesn't have the answer. I fucking hate it when you get a sensitivity slider with 10 arbitrary notches. "Don't worry gamers, I'm sure you'll find a setting you like. As long as your preference is for a mm of mouse movement to spin you between 360 and 720 degrees. Ps. you do have a gamepad rite?"

As you say, "Fuck you" indeed.

JiggaJonson said:

YES I agree 120% about the FPS and FOV limiting in games. WHY oh WHY do they take away or limit those options with such a heavy hand? Whenever I complain about it everyone acts like I'm insane to care about that because you can't see it.

I draw an analogy to a vinyl vs a digital recording, I may not be able to hear the different frequencies produced by the vinyl, but I can feel the difference in the sound. It's because complicated changes (rapidly drumming is most apparent) are based on an approximation of the sound wave in a digital recording (depending on the quality of the recording). Vinyl, meanwhile, is a recording of the actual sound wave grooved into the plastic.

Although it's nearly impossible to hear that difference, people still buy vinyls for some reason. Back to fps and fov though, I may not be able to see higher than 30 fps, but I don't live life (or drive cars) at 30 fps like a flip book. Your eyes don't give you an accurate picture of the world, they only give you a useful one.

Real life runs @ ∞ fps and htz. I'm not asking for anything close to that, just make the choice available or don't ban me for hacking when I go into my config file and try to change my fov and fps limit manually.

"Yes but it gives those players who change those settings an advantage"

Fuck you.
