ISIS Suicide Bomber Explodes in Mid-Air

bremnet says...

Talk about having a bad day at work. Poor bugger, driving along, minding his own business, and is blown up twice. Ranks right up there with Wiley Coyote. Beautiful.

U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville

bareboards2 says...

Late 50, early 60s. Things didn't work so well in those early days. I'll send him an email and ask for more details as to why that particular missile was blown up.

(He's 91 in January. Still has his marbles!)

Why did he blow up a Saturn!? Was that the ill-fated yet wildly successful test of the escape system?

One huge comet blown up is NO LONGER A HUGE COMET. But lots of smaller ones that mostly would burn up on re-entry !!!!

Kids React to Old Cameras

MilkmanDan says...

Hmmm. Debatable. Film is sort of "analog", so a good film picture can be blown up / magnified much more than a digital picture before it would look muddy/pixely. On the other hand, for anyone outside of professional photographers, getting a good digital picture is MUCH easier than getting a good film picture. I remember average-to-cheap film cameras that had to be focused, needed just the right light, no motion in the subject, etc. whereas even cheap digital cameras tend to auto-adjust to that stuff much better.

(He didn't tell them that the quality could be way better than any digital camera though, not that they would care)

I didn't read the books but I do remember in the last movie that something needed to be blown up really bad, and to whom did everybody immediately look? The IRISH kid!

It was pretty funny, but still kinda racist.

Romancing the Drone or "Aerial Citizen Reduction Program"

ChaosEngine says...

But they're not at war. America is absolutely 100% not at war with the nations of Pakistan or Yemen or wherever else they're currently using drones.

They are prosecuting assassinations of private individuals within those states. It is quite literally state sponsored terrorism.

The simple fact is that it is an illegal action under international law. Just because a foreign country doesn't want to hand over one of it's citizens that the USA believes is or has been engaged in harmful acts against your country does not mean you can simply throw your toys out of the pram.

If one of your neighbours assaults you and then runs inside their house, you can't just kick down their door for revenge.

To repeat @SDGundamX's excellent summation of the point:

if Americans are in support of remote assassinations that are carried out by executive decision without scrutiny from courts or any sort of due process, how can they possibly decry the use of such strikes by foreign powers against American citizens?

Just because you don't get what you want (the arrest/extradition of terrorists) does not mean you can just do whatever you want.

Oh, and @SDGundamX, my point was not so much that Britain would have used drones against Ireland, it's that they wouldn't have.

As much as I hated Thatcher, she wasn't stupid, and the political fallout over a British armed strike into sovereign Irish territory would have been immense, especially in the USA.

But because it's in one of them foreign places with poor brown people that don't speak english.... well, they get blown up all the time, right? What's a few more air to ground missiles, eh?

bcglorf said:

I'm simply arguing that the drone strikes be labelled what they are, acts of war against an enemy one is at war with. It should be obvious that is anything but a blanket endorsement of their use. All it does is move the goal posts from formal civilian style courts and police to justification of prosecuting a war against an enemy. Is that really such an absurd or unpalatable position?

Balloon Swallow by Tonya Kay

Those long balloons will compact into your mouth pretty easily when they aren't blown up to capacity-Otherwise she suppresses her gag reflex and fills her esophagus, easy-peasy-Not hard for anyone with a bit of practice- Whoa, raw vegan and practitioner of chaos magick...What a gal, eh??

I've seen this many times in videos before. No way can she be swallowing all that. notice she doesn't pull it back out. There is a trick to this. Not sure how they do it, but even the displacement of air in her body is unballanced, not to mention that the balloon would stop as it hit the stomach.

Captain America 2 trailer

JiggaJonson says...

I don't have a problem with special effects. I have a problem with shitty special effects that make me feel like I'm playing a video game instead of watching a movie. Anyone with a fair amount of gaming experience can tell what's real from what's not. All I'm saying is I long for the days when cgi was used to enhance rather than replace good special effects.

The models of the white house blown up for Independence day will ALWAYS look more real than the pixilated aircraft carrier that's coming out sometime next year. Go peddle your fan boy bullshit to someone who enjoys the Green screen studio as much as you seem to.

P. S.

I'm sooo happy that Disney purchased the rights to marvel. I always wanted to see the superheros I grew up reading in high Def PG 13 where wolverine can rip someone in half and not get blood on himself.

RoboCop - Reboot Trailer

EvilDeathBee says...

What do I get from this trailer?

PG-13 "death" scene. All he does is get blown up in a car, not the extremely violent and painful death of Alex Murphy from the original film goes through, the trigger in him remembering his previous life and becoming more than just an emotionless robot/cyborg. The trigger in this? His family. Yawn. They turn one of the most important scenes from the original into "boom". Also leads me to believe this'll be a PG-13 puss-fest.

Face time! The vanity of celebrities or producers that think they need to have the star's face plastered throughout the entire film (massive props for Karl Urban and the director of Dredd for sticking with the fact Dredd never shows his face). In the original, once he was RoboCop, you only ever see his face until the end. It was a good visual reminder to the audience that he was human, to reinforce that now he's reclaiming some of humanity.

It IS a powersuit. Rather than literally being a human brain in a robot as the original is, you see it's just a guy in a suit with a robot leg and arm (his bare hand and his "face in a helmet" looks ridiculous). Kinda weakens the human mind battling the robot programming aspect of the plot. Especially considering it seems he's all emo as soon as he wakes up "What have you done to me! WAH WAH!"

Where's the satire? Sure it may be hard to wedge in satirical aspects in a trailer, but I have a feeling there'll be none of it in this one. The tone is completely different and feels very generic.

Granted this is just a trailer, but it feels like this is nothing more than a generic action movie with the same name as an old beloved cult classic. I'm not against reboots, but if you plan to reboot something successful, two things need to be kept in tact: The tone and feel, and key aspects to the plot. I'd love to see more RoboCop, this isn't it.

Chris Christie Attacks Libertarians, Supports Obama and Bush

Yogi says...

What a complete and utter moron. Good detective work is more effective than starting wars and creating more hatred, giving terrorists more support around the world. Ya know how many people in Yemen hated us before we started to Drone the shit out of their tiny villages? Can you guess how easy it was to kill just a few dozen people and turn our allies and in rabid American Hating psychos?

Bush and Obama have hurt us around the world (and Obama got a fucking Nobel Fucking Prize). There's going to be more and more hate, more and more attacks on us and our children because of them. Because we supported them and we didn't wake up.

I don't care what people thought or were told to believe on Sept. 12th. I care what they do, and what we did was barely anything good. We started stupid wars, we threatened we cracked down.

We even commissioned a study on how to prevent future 9/11s and what did we do with the information? FUCK ALL. You can get a nuclear device from an increasingly destabilization Pakistan, which is Obamas fault with him surging the war to shit in Afghanistan. Get your Nuclear device, wrap it in a bale of fucking Marijuana, and put it in a fucking shipping container to the USofA. It'll get here, not be inspected, be taken to a fucking hotel room in lower Manhattan, assembled by a scientist who's fucking child was blown up by a fucking drone, and detonated.

We don't care, we don't THINK, we just keep going. They're not protecting us, they're not even trying. It's up to us to remove THEM so we can get in people who represent US.

StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm Opening Cinematic

Sylvester_Ink says...

Don't worry, you'll get that in Planetary Annihilation. (At very least, planets will be blown up.)

arghness said:

Probably the closest RTS games I can think of to this scale are things like the Total Annihilation series (loads of units) and the spiritual successors Supreme Commander and Supreme Commander 2 (loads of units and a large difference in scale between some of them).

There's nothing comparable to the Battle Cruiser in this clip, but there are units that are hugely different in size, like the Ultralisks shown here.
