Pink Floyd's First Music Video - Arnold Layne

silvercord says...

From Wiki:

The song's title character is a transvestite whose primary pastime is stealing women's clothes and undergarments from washing lines. Some believe that "Arnold Layne" was actually based on a real person, and that he routinely stole underwear from the mothers of Barrett and bassist Roger Waters during their childhood days in Cambridge.

However, despite finding a place in the Top 20, the song's unusual transvestism theme attracted the ire of Radio London, which deemed the song too far-removed from "normal" society for its listeners before eventually banning it from radio airplay altogether.

Producer Norman Smith wanted the band to re-record the Joe Boyd-produced song after they had signed up with EMI. While Waters and keyboardist Richard Wright were willing to do this, Barrett, on the other hand, was entirely satisfied with the existing studio cut, and argued against recording another version.

A black and white promotional film of "Arnold Layne" was made the same year, and featured members of Pink Floyd dressing up a mannequin before showing it around a beach. Recently, an alternative promotional film was unearthed, which featured the young Floyd goofing around in a forest and in front of a church. It is also the only known footage of Syd Barrett lip synching to the song.

"I Got Rhythm" - solo version by John Pizzarelli

choggie says...

Don't have to have perfect pitch to do that....Idetic memory of ones' instrument...you play so much you remember what its going to sound like beforehand. Lots of performers do this.... one was Slam Stewart, bassist who hummed the notes as he bowed.
Mose Allison, Charles Mingus,Rashaan Roland Kirk, Keith Jarrett, how bout' Joe Walsh and Peter Frampton, with their talky-thingy-dealies.....

Charlie Parker, it has been said, the way he hit the woodshed, was by learning "I Got Ryhthm" in every key, and becomming proficient in them, using that song.....once he got that down, well....he also used a Rico #5 reed, which if anyone has ever blown woodwinds, is next to impossible to get a squeak out of, unless yer embrochures' like a foundry press.

Pizzarelli has such a great voice, reminds of Chet Baker....

The Who - Shakin' All Over

Farhad2000 says...

It's the Who, live in concert. There is nothing else to say.

The Who are an English rock band that first came to prominence in the 1960s. They grew to be considered one of the greatest and most influential rock bands of all time, in addition to being "possibly the greatest live band ever."

The group originally had four members, but drummer Keith Moon died in 1978 and bassist John Entwistle in 2002. The two remaining members, guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Pete Townshend and vocalist Roger Daltrey, continue to perform as The Who. Their most recent studio album, Endless Wire, was released in 2006. The Who are #8 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock, #9 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Rock 'n' Roll and the #8 artist of all time on acclaimedmusic.net.

From mod rockers to rock operas to hard rock, The Who reigned triumphant as prime contenders, in the minds of many, for the title of World's Greatest Rock Band. - The Who's display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Rammstein - Keine Lust

NordlichReiter says...

Keine Lust means roughly don't feel like it. Its my favorite video by them, they have one the award for best music videos in Europe several times over.

Check out this video of an accident at one of their concerts.

This accident happened long ago, they were performing Heirate mich (marry me) from the Mutter Album, since then i would their stage shows have gotten better, but i wonder sometimes about safety. Till like to set himself on fire, the bassist has a flamethrower face mask, and there even was a tommy gun flame thrower in some of their acts.

Anekdoten - The War Is Over (beautiful trippy song)

Farhad2000 says...

Anekdoten is a Swedish progressive rock band, comprised of guitarist/vocalist Nicklas Barker, cellist Anna Sofi Dahlberg, bassist/vocalist Jan Erik Liljeström and drummer Peter Nordins. They are notable for the use of the mellotron and the heavy and trippy sound, dominated by a pounding bass guitar. Their music is associated with the tradition of 1970s progressive rock music, especially the one of King Crimson, but they have also covered songs by Van Der Graaf Generator and Magma on their live performances.

One of my favorite songs evar!
