That explains the NSFW label. Idk if it's really WTF, places like this have existed for decades; see: Hooters. But let's not pretend. I doubt baristas dressed like Eskimos would sell as much or more coffee.

They could do another video on the proliferation of tipping. You see tip jars at drive up windows, coffee shops, fast food places. I know there's less obligation to the jar, but it's still pretty awkward. Am I an ass for not tipping? What if no one else is tipping, will doing so look like a sad attempt to ingratiate myself to the attractive barista? Is it fine to just throw a bit of loose change in there on a small purchase, or will they see the pennies as an insult?

Actually I worked as a barista for years and this was the fastest way to clean things when customers were lined up back to back.

Yep. Maybe, helping him clear his inventory without a loss will let him re-stock in a way that works out better for him in the future.

The weak social ties that connect us---the storekeeper, the barista, the guy at the corner stand you say hello to---they have a lot to do with the sense of neighborhood that people have when they live in a place.

I laugh . . . only because this has happened. The ordering Bud Lite at a craft brew pub. The barista's reaction was just blank shock and the guy sitting next to me looked at the would be beer drinker and said: "You're in the wrong place for that." The guy then asked if they served pitchers . . . at which point everyone at the bar was staring at him. The barista, with a completely flat expression: "No." I think she ended up giving him the cheapest light lager they had.

When I look at some of these protests, I do have to wonder. Do these kids have any skills? Or is it "my parents didn't pay for me to spend 7 years drinking through a history major for nothin', where's my job?" Honestly, how many of our cohort are qualified for little other than barista gigs at a Starbucks? That shit might wake you up, but it don't make the world turn.

There is blame on all sides here. I agree with @raverman. We've gotten soft.

On another note if all the baristas only wore a smock and undies starbucks would probably see a huge spike in business. Plus they could lower the quality of their products and nobody would notice cause everyone would be too busy staring at the TnA or CnA.

He may have been the Maurus Aurelius of baristas, but he couldn't dance. Those brass footprints work just fine, if you know how to do the dances....
