Commodore 64 turns 30: What do today's kids make of it?

deathcow says...

>> ^oritteropo:

Interesting. My first c64 wasn't a rev 1 ROM, so it didn't have this bug (did any PAL c64's?).
A bit of googling suggests that if you has pressed play on your datasette, and then stopped it, you could have recovered! If only we'd had the internet in 1982!!!

>> ^deathcow:
There was a bug in the C64 where if you typed and filled the very bottom line of the screen with text and then kept typing which overflowed to the next line, (which would make the screen text all flow up one line to make room) and THEN you backspaced back onto the last line, it would lock the machine up cold. I lost code to this bug enough times that it eventually became set in the brain at a very low level to avoid this.
To THIS day when working in the bottom line of a text editor, notepad, etc whatever, if I am typing and flowing into new lines in the bottom, my brain raises red flags if I am backspacing.

That was cool (bottom trivia question) !!!!

<edit: Um... posted this in the wrong video. Sorry. Damn, inadvertently changing focus from the text box and then hitting the backspace key...>

This one is neat though. I'm surprised they managed to edit it together to sound so smooth, as though they were all using high-quality microphones.

Veruca Salt "I Kissed a squirrel and I Liked It" Parody

Playinwithfire says...

>> ^shuac:
>> ^Playinwithfire:
To Clarify, if it even needed to be, Yes, Veruca Salt IS ALSO a band, as well as the name of the well known materialistic, selfish little shit from Willy Wonka prominently featured in this video. Wasnt aware, this somehow gave the impression the band "Veruca Salt" were the ones doing the PARODY, and they are 2 distinctly different things. So yeah point was, um its funny. The presumption from you though of any ignorance from this "kid" Is far funnier though. Seriously, you think anyones dumb enough to think this sounds like the band in any way? Get over your little judgemental, presumptuous, fact finding self and just enjoy the video for what it is, or heres a novel idea, how about if you felt my description gave the wrong impression, just simply pointing it out to me rather than spew venom? Check that information repository you mentioned, and look up "presumption" Then feel free to school the "kids"

The Character.. (1971 version)

No, your original video description (before you changed it) read that the song "I Kissed a Girl" was by Veruca Salt. And you know you changed it.
Hey, it's not even really a huge deal, you know? Whatever! It's all good, baby. Was my rebuke over the top? Yep.
But don't knowingly change the incorrect text and then act all indignant. It's beneath you, trust me. Reveal the strength of your character and say, "Oh, yeah...you know I screwed up when I said that song was by Veruca Salt." Or chalk it up to an innocent typo. I'll accept that. But don't change it and then wonder, publicly, how I could possibly glean what I did. Are you a politician? If not, then you may have a bright future. Think about running.

Did I not just say that? Re read... "If my description gave the wrong impression point it out"
Obviously it did, and I corrected the problem, my point was the unnecessary ugliness, and the presumption it was out of ignorance vs a typo. not the correction of the description once mistake was noted. I removed some of the title text when it was posted because it did not fit, and apparently missed the "by" when backspacing. Of course I changed it, why wouldn't I? Again complaint was in the approach and your presumption, not the typo I was happy to correct.

Swampie, it's painfully obvious if a button is marked with the words "home" and "end" then they must be for scrolling webpages, right? RIGHT?!

The best way to fix your mood is to upvote everything in my queue and PQ. I swear, it works!

Nobody should ever stay away from commenting, even if they're extremely pissed or just in a general grumpy mood. I like to see people react without needing to edit their words first. That's why I like the idea of not being able to edit after a certain amount of time. So what if someone was drunk typing or angry or whatever? That's life. The best part is when someone apologizes and the two parties talk it over, resolving any conflict. If we all used our backspace button for every odd thing we typed, we'd be a bunch of passive-aggressive whiners. And I'm already that in real life.

And just for good measure, I hope your dog/cat/fish dies of gonorrhea. Uh oh, no comment editing! hehe.

I do have some weed! I'm a miserable fuck and I should stay away from commenting when i'm in this mood. And no it's not PMS

I getcha, even before you wrote my profile I was aware I was being a reactionary japsi and edited. Sorry man Pass the word on, ac has lost her sense of humour and she needs it back fuckin pronto

If I ever miss KP, I'll just put a sock on my hand and make it sing Chaccaron.

I wasn't condemning, per se. The CP420 debacle was necessary, because he was being a douchebag and it was bothering more than a few people. My concern was with the general attitude of everyone involved. I hate the guy for being a troll, but even I need to calm down and realize it's just a web site. Not that calming down should remove anger entirely, but just enough so we all can go back to watching dogs fart, which is what we're here for.

I have a problem with the apparent rising of tempers when it comes to various aspects of this site, like blankfist's Upvote Everything Day. I see the downside and the upside to his idea, so I try to stay neutral. joedirt does not. At all. In any way. heh.

Got any weed?

Pfft, quit ya moanin and go watch videos then

No-one makes anyone read sift talk posts, can't really see what you're getting at here, other than to condemn people - myself included obviously - for giving a shit about one person relentlessly being a dick. That's hardly taking everything too seriously is it now.

Who is asking for perfection? Everyone is entitled to their opinions and to move about this place as they see fit on an individual basis. To be told what and how we should be acting is somewhat annoying.

I think you is missing KP

I thought the same thing when I read yours. I'm sure we do have much in common. Wow, I feel for MKs. You know I was groomed for missions work when I was a teen. My big break from "faith" happened in bible college actually. It took a couple of more years before I actually acted upon it and left the church.

Tequila, whew! heheh No thanks. Tequila is not nice to me

I thought when my kids were a little older and could leave them with a sitter for a weekend, it'd be fun to throw a gathering somewhere. That'd be something eh?

Have a great weekend.

I'm so tempted to hold a sifters gathering, you know?
Have a great weekend!

I had written you all this really wonderful little story about myself and I hit backspace out the window by accident and lost it. Damn! Do over! Ok, but a fast one:

I'm Kim

I'm originally from a rural area of the Pee Dee region of South Carolina. I came from a strict Fundie Baptist upbringing. I rejected my indoctrination around age 23 and I now consider myself agnostic. Back in the south, I'm an in-the-closet agnostic so to speak until my mother passes. Sad huh? Well, with family it's complicated isn't it.

I met my husband while living in Charleston, SC back in my mid twenties. I was really horrible to him when I dumped him for an adventure in Japan. I loved that year I spent there, but it cost me some time I could have had with him. I regret that. Luckily we found each other again and we have been happy ever since.

We live in Indiana now along with our two kids, 3 dogs and various caged small animals. I've been home schooling our two kids for 2 years now.

My idea of an ideal Saturday afternoon is sitting here w/ my guy having a laugh sharing some nice bourbon while the kids play in the backyard. He's usually on the xbox while I'm sifting.... It's my happy place

A family picnic on a blanket at the park would have been my favorite, but since it doesn't have wi-fi....

I've been a member here at Videosift for two years I think...

I'll be 39 again this October.
