Sam Harris: Can Psychedelics Help You Expand Your Mind?

enoch says...

these are the instances where harris always shines in my opinion.everyone should experience psychedelics at least once in their life, and as harris pointed out, there are caveats but it is so worth it.

the dissolving of the ego can be frightening for some but it can bring you to a truth, about yourself and others, that is quite hard to accomplish without assistance.

i find it interesting that this video is going to be sifted while trances video on the healing nature of psychedelics has been downvoted.

ah sift...you are a fickle mistress.

Stuff They Don't Want You to Know - DMT

Trancecoach says...

DMT is often released endogenously (that is, within the brain) when a person dies and during REM while we sleep, facilitating dreams.

It's in ayahuasca and elicited some of the more profound visions and insights that I've ever had.

BANNED TED Talks Graham Hancock on Consciousness Emergence

CreamK says...

This was removed from TED? Good, it started to get a little bit preachy and messianic.. Not really objective, hallucinogenics do reveal similar patterns but how we interpret them is personal. You aren't suppose to start converting people in to your thought patterns acquired during ayahuasca sessions, it's suppose to liberate yourself from that behaviour. And guilt. Mostly guilt.

BANNED TED Talks Graham Hancock on Consciousness Emergence

swedishfriend says...

Ted talks are not all science-based and this talk doesn't have a single claim of any woo as people like to call it.

PS. There is an ayahuasca church that has been recognized as a religion in the USA and its sacrament can be used in church ceremonies legally.

BANNED TED Talks Graham Hancock on Consciousness Emergence

artician says...

Leaving aside the claims about the planet, through lots of research on the topic he speaks of I don't see anything he said as being unfounded, relative to the substances he's discussing.
Ayahuasca has certainly been proven to rid many, many people of addiction, and has been proven to have long-term positive side effects for people with mental disorders such as depression. I believe raising awareness of those elements are worth allowing people to speak about them at TED.

BicycleRepairMan said:

This TEDx talk was not "banned" . It was simply removed from TEDx's Youtube channel because TEDx found the content to be pseudoscientific and making unfounded claims. (After people had complained that they were) The TED brand prides itself on delivering inspiring talks by scientist and others, and the TEDx business is threatening to undermine that standard, as TEDx are events organized locally , so the quality assurance can be iffy.

TED/TEDx is in full right to decide whether it wants to be a platform for pseudoscientific gobbledygook or not. IMO, this was the right thing to do, and it should serve as a warning to TED against the woo-people who wants to spread their nonsense through TED. TED/TEDx should be stricter on who they let up on their stages next time around.

Jennifer Aniston talks about the Prosthetic Penis

Trancecoach says...

this is really LAME.
They actually do not trip on LSD in this movie. Rather, they drink a powerful psychedelic Amazonian tea called Ayahuasca.
It's truly unfortunate that she acts as though it's LSD because the truth is that the psychedelic experiences the two drugs evoke are actually quite different from one another.

Changa is generally said to produce effects that are smoother and longer-lasting than pure DMT, a difference some believe is due to the MAOI alkaloids potentiating the DMT. One smoker remarks: "...the experience is a LOT like Ayahuasca and far more grounding and insightful than smoking DMT on its own. I find it extremely enjoyable, too. It's gentler, less freaky, lasts longer, and yet it goes very deep."

Meet Human Barbie Doll Valeria Lukyanova

Getting High On Krystle

shagen454 says...

I'm glad this FINALLY came out! It sucks that the LSD lab was shutdown - it's a pretty hard to find substance now. Well, thank goodness for the Silk Road, haha. Anyway, I like Hamilton - I think he's funny. He is sort of like a Nick Cave meets Lurch kinda guy but I appreciate his intentions. I really like the one where he goes to South America to get Ayahuasca & super envious of the time he went to the Blue Lagoon in Iceland and did shrooms, that would be incredible.

I certainly cannot imagine what it would be like to be "poisoned" with psychedelics... it'd surely not be too fun to know you've been poisoned and locked in by someone with evil intent. Ugh. I'm having a bad trip just thinking about it. Krystle was playing with fire & she's super lucky she didn't get burned worse than she did. I still don't understand why she didn't just leave that asshole when the abuse began instead of being a narc.

The Ayahuasca Project - Film Trailer

i saw a documentary on this but it clearly wasnt this documentary. looks like a good drug, but really you need a holistic approach, that is, you need more than just the drug

What is your drug of choice? (User Poll by Throbbin)

cybrbeast says...

(all links are to Erowid, a very informative non-profit educational site on drugs)

The *drugs I use most are coffee, marijuana, alcohol, benzodiazepines (valium, xanax etc.), in frequency of use respectively.

The drugs that have given me the most profound experiences are:
Salvia (legal), LSD, MDMA (XTC), DPT, 2c-i/2c-e, psilocybin mushrooms. I have tried nitrous (N2O)(legal) in combination with all except for Salvia and DPT and let me tell you that nitrous boosts them to a whole new, though sadly very fleeting, level for a few minutes.

I really want to have a good mescaline experience. But my last attempts at consuming the most horrid, bitter, slimy, and vomit inducing cactus goop only yielded threshold experiences. I really need to do an extraction on cactus and get some crystal mescaline for a measured and less yucky dose.

Another drug I really want to try is DMT or ayahuasca. Ayahuasca, though also reportedly horribly disgusting, is easily made out of legal plants and DMT can be extracted from them.

Yes I consider myself quite a psychonaut. I do thoroughly research these drugs before use and consider myself a responsible drug user. I only use these psychedelics very infrequently, like once every 3 months or so. They are quite self limiting.

Radio Host pwns caller on the topic of Marijuana - happy 420

vairetube says...

1:00 ~ ... @ pic.

i like he mentions the existence of DMT in our bodies. I read this is released when you die and provides powerful hallucinations? trippy. like tha ayahuasca root drink from the amazon or something... meo-5 DMT. anyhoo.

Marijuana is harmless (especially vaporized in medical grade device).

Your perceptions can be altered by the substance. Dealing with that is a valuable opportunity to learn.

The substance itself has remarkable and medically relevant, valuable, effects.

heroin and cocaine... people will always do this shit, like ecstacy and meth too. try cracking down on that instead. stop the pot sellers using cash for other more serious illegal operations. take that funding away.

spend money on educational opportunities and watch crime and despair and drug use drop.

what the fuck were we talking about again.

Salvia divinorum: Extremely psychoactive drug

Trancecoach says...

sacred substances need to be taken in sacred space, with proper reverence and intention -- usually including guidance from those who have "been there" before. Where's the corollary ayahuasca video?

Welcome to the archaic revival. We'll be returning to the ancestral passages before too soon.

Carl Sagan's Cosmos - Tesseract

cybrbeast says...

If I "really want to see other dimensions"? I can tell you the demensions Salvia produces are quite real for me while I'm under the influence.
It is hypothesized that your brain produces DMT while you dream, it is not known for sure, it does occur in small quantities naturally in the brain.
I am however curious to DMT and I will probably try it at some time. Probably first in the form of Ayahuasca.
