Stephen's first small step toward manhood ...

Ricky Gervais Opens the 2016 Golden Globes

bareboards2 says...

He was far and away the best thing about the Golden Globes.

Some seriously awkward "comedy" and huge ego trips this year.

But I watched the whole thing. Because Gervais.

Woman Says Fuck the Internet

artician says...

The awkwardness is strong with this one. Anyone else get a Tim & Eric vibe from this? Just... calmer?

"I think that's from something, but I don't know how to find out what."

Steve Harvey Announces Wrong Winner of Miss Universe 2015

creationist student gets owned

OverLord says...

I always love the awkward look on people's face when they think they are being smart or clever and are "totally going to show someone up when they ask this question" and then they sit there all awkward and are internally crying or raging as it just didn't go they way they thought it would at all.

I've been there

Stephen Attempts To Convert Bill Maher

artician says...

I've been downloading this lately, though not super impressed with it, what in the hell was up with this segment last night? Why does Bill Maher hate Colbert so much? There were some awkward and depressing exchanges to watch in this interview, and I understood none of it.

Computer Show “Communities”

Awkwafina's vag is amazing

Tom Hardy Aggressively Responds To Sexuality Question.

Payback says...

How is that in ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM "Aggressive"?

Holy shit... he was practically laughing at the absurd question...

I like the original title, "Tom Hardy gets asked about his sexuality for the film Legend and the whole thing is AWKWARD."

Completely factual.

Upside Down Whale Breach

Man at Arms - Forging a Daedric Axe (Skyrim)

Asmo says...

It's hilarious just how bad that design really is for use. That butt spike would be more dangerous to the wielder than the victim and it seems to be the reason why most of their strikes look awkward.

Oh my god

artician says...

Can't tell if you were joking, but it seems entirely fake, so... maybe that's some relief?

Obviously it still represents some people in reality, but I think this was just a stupid staging for the sake of amusing people at the expense of someone's awkwardness.

Seriously, everyone's just going to stand there and watch and ignore?

That's one thing that really bothers me, standing by watching someone potentially get hurt and offering not even so much as a "Hey, you alright?" and even going so far as to laugh at them instead.

For shame.

Woman gives birth to 10lb baby in car

artician says...

Glad he filmed that, as awkward as it was. Awesome stuff.

(also, loved that "do you want me to stop?" after it was pretty clear the baby had arrived)

"Some of the guys aren't even remotely smiling" Amy rocks it

bareboards2 says...

@Mordhaus I don't know if your comment was quasi-directed at me. I'm going to pretend it was.

I was awkward in my phrasing, but I was actually doing a tiny little survey.

My question really is -- IF YOU ARE A FEMINIST, are you more likely to find Amy funny? IF YOU ARE AWARE OF THE BODY AND SEXUALITY ISSUES OF WOMEN, are you more likely to find Amy funny?

I don't know if Ulysses is male or female for sure. It is just a guess that that avatar and that name makes that person male.

I have a gender neutral name and my avatar is a tribute to my father who died two months ago. So you can't tell my gender from the information presented here.

And you are absolutely right. Funny is what is funny to you.

I'm just curious who "you" is and if it might have a bearing on whether or not Amy is funny to you.

Tina Fey thinks she is funny. Tina Fey is a feminist. All the people I know who like her are feminists.

I was just asking.

Internet Friends

GenjiKilpatrick says...

I'm not clear what you mean by compartmentalizing & general friends bit exactly but..

Yes, human tend to gravitate towards distinct groups.
The terms coined would be In-groups or Out-groups.

In terms of society, people who socialize in non-normative ways are stigmatized as part of an Out-group. Any fringe culture.

e.g. - Those weirdo who can only make friends online.

However, for all us interweb nerds. Befriending stranger online IS the norm.

So we become the In-group, and those cocky extroverted socialite types are the Out-group.

This is effectively what's happening when you try to merge two circles of friends and they awkward reject one another.

So more or less.. no, "general" wholly inclusive friendships or In-group are not a thing.

You would all need one common thread.
Somewhere those threads would begin to divert too much and that circle would close ranks.

Hence, why Utopia is impossible.

Cool idea tho.

..she should get over it.

we're compartmentalizing ourselves more and more. We go to one site to seek out A and another for B, and another for... Are we getting away from being able to have 'general' friends that we can shoot the bull about any topic?
