Health Care: U.S. vs. Canada
I think it's because Quebec has a shortage of doctors because Quebec in it's infinite stupidity and xenophobia do not allow doctors to practice unless they speak high level french (the same reason I can't get Permanent Residency here while other Aussie friends in BC and Ontario had no issue). I guess we simply didn't have a serious shortage in Australia. It's so easy to find a GP, I guess it might be harder to find one that Bulk Bills (medicare takes the entire cost of consultation) for low income earners.
My experience at hospitals is limited. When i got hit on the head by a cricket bat, i had to wait 2 hours, I think (was a long time ago), to get stitches. And when I had my tonsils out, I had to wait 6 months for the elective surgery because we didn't have private insurance.
My girlfriend had to go to the ER when she had mono here, we had to wait an hour or two before she was seen by a doctor. While we were there, the hospital was fucking decrepit, the waiting room was freezing (there was a lady who had a broken arm and she was violently shivering), and nearer the end of the day (my GF had to have an IV drip so we had to wait around there all day to see if it helped her) an old lady was called up and as she was walking past she said she had been there since 8 in the morning and they had literally forgotten about her.
One of my friends has an issue with kidney stones, they build up and he has to have surgery to get them out. He had a procedure booked for I don't know how long, went to the hospital and they told him they didn't have any beds left and he had to wait another week.
The Jewish General has now been instructed to turn away off-island patients. It has the best cancer treatment facility of any hospital, so people with cancer are now instructed to kindly fuck off.
The new, mega hospital in Vendome is waaaay over budget and time, and people (particularly old people) can't even get to it from the metro station right near it!
I'd love to move to Vancouver...
Just asking.
Why do you think it too so long ? Government bureaucracy? ineptness? No one really cares how long you wait? Surge of ill people causing temporary under staffing?
Why did Australia service you so quickly?

Well you know what cheating mongrels us Aussies can be when there's a sporting competition involved... like the infamous underarm ball - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_FnSfVSG6c
It's really the team and not the driver though. This year each car is required to be fitted with an FIA fuel sensor to ensure that they don't exceed the maximum 100kg/hr fuel flow. In this case, the team found that the sensor was reading a bit high, so complying with it would mean a loss of power... so they changed the ECU settings to ignore it and go with their calculated values instead. They had been told to use the readings from the sensor, but with an offset applied, but chose not to because they felt it was still inaccurate.
The basis for the steward's decision to exclude the car was that "it is not within their discretion to run a different fuel flow measurement method without the permission of the FIA"
I imagine that the basis of their appeal against this decision will be that they did not actually exceed the maximum, it was a sensor error that made it appear that they did so, and that they therefore gained no advantage.
My sources for this are mostly these two articles - http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/ricciardo-excluded-from-melbourne-result/ and http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/red-bull-confident-of-winning-fuel-flow-appeal/
So whats up with that cheating Australian Is that something the driver did or the team and were they aware they were breaking the rules? How does it even happen?

The last time an Aussie was on the podium for a home race was Allan Jones back in the 80s, but that was a non championship round!
Certainly Magnussen has gone some way to justifying McLaren's decision to replace Checo (Sergio Perez).
One more honourable mention - to Bottas, for keeping the racing interesting long after the podium positions had been decided.

No, I'm representative of someone who thinks for themselves and for the creative spark that's left this house of cards circle-jerk of back-patters and party-liners. We also have Mar-mite and Vegemite jars in the fridge, Kylie Minogue's discography among the music selections in the hard-drive, and have tripped-balls playing the didgeridoo on several occasions.
We can also throat-sing, change a diaper, prepare delicious meals, compose music, be both a jerk and a sweetheart, clean a fish, pan for gold, grow vegetables, train dogs (and cats), service automobiles and small engines, and build a PC from parts down to the computer-supply store. Just your average human being.
Thank god for insects, Aussies and Yanks, and newts.
Kalle,
Please ignore the troll above, he is not representative of the sift.
That said...vegemite on ANYTHING??? The totally nasty 'vitamin and caster oil like' paste is inedible to anyone not raised on it...as I'm sure are many American tastes.

BRILLIANT Aussie Ad That Rupert Murdoch Had Banned
Umm, the title is...
"BRILLIANT Aussie Ad That Rupert Murdoch Had Banned"
That's not the same as condemning it, and it's not the same as working behind the scenes to get media providers not to show it.
I get it, I dislike Murdoch as much as the next guy, but the title isn't even presumptuous, it's totally unproven and without any supporting evidence, is an outright lie. You want to take the moral high ground over Murdoch by engaging in the same shenanigans he perpetrates?
Calm down man, I realise that he hadn't outright condemned this in public, but let's face it, the likelihood that he had nothing to do with it is slim. And if you aren't used to audience-catching video titles by now, then where have you been?
Nevertheless, thank you for pointing out the facts so others don't get misled

Julian Assange went front and center again with a piece in some new'ish Aussie news outlet called The Stringer. I wouldn't have noticed it, but Zero Hedge picked it up.
Assange's claim: Google and the US State Department have closer ties than anyone would be willing to admit, with Jared Cohen, Director of Google Ideas, acting as "Google’s director of regime change".
Hefty claims, although lacking in detail. "Don't be evil"... it had such a nice ring to it, back in the days.
Edit: And to put the icing on the cake, Foreign Policy released official documents showing how the Reagan administration gave target intel to the Iraqis, knowing full well it'll lead to a chemical attack. Great timing, all things considered.
