A message for those who want war with Iran

TheSofaKing says...

arsenault185

Apparently you have never heard Ahmadinejad speak. I also think everyone is a little too sure that an attack is imminent. I don't believe that it is and I hope more then anything that it can be avoided. However, when Iranian leadership, who believe they can bring on the hidden imam by causing apocalyptic chaos, threatens to wipe Israel off the map... I tend to think that we should obstruct their nuclear ambitions at every turn.

Saddam wasn't rational. Bin Landen isn't rational. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad isn't rational. How do we reason and negotiate with these people? Is it possible?

Bill Maher - Hillary is Cheney in a Pant Suit

Grimm says...

How Clark shills for Clinton is embarrassing. He argues that we need to "talk" with Iran and when it is pointed how Hillary attacked Obama for saying he would talk to Iran, Clark makes the lame straw dog argument for Clinton that "without any preparation I don't think the president of the united states should meet with a foreign leader like Ahmadinejad. That's what she was saying".

He even tries to defend countries that force women to wear burkas by saying that the women want to wear the burkas. Ignoring the fact that in many countries they don't have a "choice".

Real News: Ahmadinejad rough reception in New York

marinara says...

why does the tv host interrupt the person whom he's interviewing?

anyhow.

The concluding line is : (on the terrible insult to Ahmadinejad) "what they see is American arrogance towards a world leader."

Is "arrogance" the correct term here? "Preemptive war" doesn't really describe a bombing raid on a hospital either.

Did everyone watch the CBS interview: http://www.videosift.com/video/President-Ahmadinejad-on-news-magazine-60-Minutes

A good movie to watch is "Marriage, Iranian style" It's a romantic comedy movie, but you will be struck by how modern Tehran and Iranian culture are. You have to fight the stereotype. So get your head straight.

I'm watching your "real news" post now.

I think nuanced is the right word to use here. I would never support that guy.

BUT I can't get past how when we demonize a leader, that is a big step till acceptance of a Iran bombing policy.

Sorry for the awkward sentence

In reply to this comment by cybrbeast:
What I think he said was that the Zionist entity would be wiped away, not meaning killed, but ended. He has said that he is for a referendum in Palestine/Israel where every inhabitant including current refugees, be it Jew, Muslim or Christian gets a vote about a government of unity. This might be a very naive view but it is not a view that all Jews should be killed.
I just submitted a video with a more nuanced view on the Ahmadinejad affair by "The Real News Network", I think the issue deserved more in depth commentary instead of this useless propaganda and spin. (sorry for the self plug)

good one man that really surprised me in a good way.

In reply to this comment by rightwinger:
Cyberbeast - while the phrase "must be wiped from the pages of history" can conceivably be translated to not mean a call to destruction, it was not his only utterance on that subject - e.g. "Very Soon, Israel Will Be Purged From the Center of the Islamic World – and This is attainable' -

And marinara - your average telemarketer is just someone doing his job, not a state leader trying to destroy his country...

President Ahmadinejad on news magazine 60 Minutes

Structure says...

As president of Iran, Ahmadinejad does not have control over military forces and can't declare war. Unfortunately these powers are given to the current Supreme Nutjob of Iran: Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The president of Iran hates the government of Israel and views it as a corrupt regime that will collapse in on itself on its own. This is according to the actual translation of what he said. When Americans wanted Saddam's regime gone they didn't want to exterminate all Iraqis. The Ayatollah, however, wants the people of Israel wiped off the map. And plenty of Iranians running the newspapers side with the Ayatollah so they print their fanatic views instead of the president's views that match the U.N.'s resolutions against Israel.

I have a feeling that a war with Iran would be a disaster. It'd be best if everyone thoroughly investigates the reasons for war with Iran.

We Don’t Have Homosexuals Like In Your Country

bamdrew says...

He is from a different culture where homosexuality is still strongly repressed to the point of myth, but keep in mind just how recently the US has taken its first strides towards acceptance. Dr. Alfred Kinsey brought homosexuality into discussion in the 40' and 50's, and even argued that a scaling between one and the other most accurately describes humanity. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinsey_Scale This scaling is still hardly accepted in males in the US (with a 2 on the scale indicating "Predominantly heterosexual, only incidentally homosexual"), though more acceptance exists with females bisexuality due to pop culture portrayal. Anyhow, point being that its fine to frown or laugh about Ahmadinejads denial of homosexuality, but its more powerful to share how we are slowly addressing our own history of denial (ex. I live in the mid-west, so no civil unions in my state).

He made some salient points in his UN speech; his two bones to pick with the US were how unclear their final goal is in Operation Iraqi Freedom and their obstruction of Iran nuclear power plants. He mentions that the US told the world we were going in for WMD's, to topple a dictator, and to provide open elections,... so why is the US still there. He mentions that because of their shared history and religion millions of Iranians continue to make religious pilgrimage into neighboring Iraq, and many of his people have died in these same blasts that are killing Iraqis.

Anyhow, there are plenty of former and current politicians who grew up in a culture unaccepting of homosexuality and made up their minds on the topic. Ron Paul is clearly no bastion for gay rights, for instance.
