Ok, I don't want to escalate it further than that.

Tbh, I do see where you're coming from, but I don't like the way you did it.

I don't like violence in any form - jackass has always been boring to me, but the video is fun, to me, because it's just two people being drunk and idiots, and because it causes such an uproar.

You can call me all the nasty names you want - it doesn't bother me and neither do you. I have no axe to grind. I don't care to get too involved in the internet. I think it's not ok to post videos of men punching women, and I think poorly of you for doing so. It's ok for you to disagree, and get all indignant and whatever. I'm not interested. It's beneath me, and I think it should be beneath you.

In reply to this comment by gwiz665:
Meh. That's a closed chapter, but feel free to look in there - I stand by all that happened.

Is it ever ok for a man to hit another man? Is it ever ok for a woman to hit a man? Is it ever ok for a woman to hit another woman?

Why is a man hitting a woman in a "friendly" environment so much worse than the rest? In abusive environments, all of those are bad, but women aren't inherently bigger victims than the rest.

It seems to me that you have an axe to grind, that's your deal - I'm just pissed when people make judgments about me, when they don't know me - and, you don't know me. The thread you mention is complete horseshit, from one end to the other, so don't drag that into this.

You are in no position to judge me.. at all.

I don't even have to agree with the video I've posted. Do you agree with all the videos you've posted?

http://videosift.com/video/Today-Show-flasher - are you a flasher?
http://videosift.com/video/Famous-people-on-drugs - are you a drug addict?
http://videosift.com/video/Hipster-gets-glassess-tattooed-on-his-face - are you an idiot hipster?

I doubt you are, but you did post those videos.

What I do know, is that you interpret stories from one side, make retarded and judgmental comments about other people, get on your oh-so-high horse and stroke your superiority complex. All of that tells me you're a dick.

Dick.

Happy to play, champ. Your immature, confused and ignorant attitudes towards women are well kmown and documented here. Would you like me to go find the thread in which your behaviour towards women in Texas is discussed by those adversely affected by it?

I'm not surprised you don't understand why posting a video of a man punching a women reflects poorly on the person who posted it. But let me make this clear to you - it is never ok for a man to punch a woman. Never. And all you're defending by posting that, Captain Liberty, is the interests of the poor oppressed people who like to punch women.

Yes, my comment was judgemental. I am judging you.

In reply to this comment by gwiz665:
Aww, bitchy and judgmental kymbos, so fearful for all the little women out there who can't defend themselves.

If you want to attack me, I'll bite back.

So fuck you.

Fountain Lady was in the same boat. No one knew (or cared) who that blurry silhouette on the video was until she decided to go on TV and threaten the mall with legal action.
Keeping quiet might have kept her criminal record from going public as well. I hope she wasn't trying to keep those felony charges secret. =X

I don't know, I give her more credit than that. She didn't start giving interviews or go on the today show to lessen her public humiliation.

Her civil suit will be centered around the grief caused by that humiliation, so anything she can do to amplify her grief now will translate into gravy further on. However, this only works as long as she doesn't appear to be courting further abasement, which is why she pretends to be sort of dumb. A cunning plan.

Ben Franklin was a very, very exceptional man. Applying his moral life to the 7 billion inhabitants of this planet shows a disregard for reality and an inability to see those "shades of gray" I mentioned. You're a utopianist and misguided.

In reply to this comment by blankfist:
Free markets are absolutely guided by self-interest. It's how we're to be incentivized to do good around us. In fact, Ben Franklin in the Poor Richard's Almanac termed the phrase, "doing well by doing good." Which is to mean profiting from doing good for others.

Allow me a Franklin tangent: he amassed great wealth from creating various services and goods (printing press, fire fighting services, etc.), and then in his 40s he spent his remaining years creating scientific accomplishments without asking for financial compensation. Some of the things he gave back for free were bifocals, lightening rods, and he even created the modern map of the gulf stream. Go figure.

Self-interest gave us those things. Now, certainly you cannot rely on individuals ALWAYS doing these sort of things, but through profit you guarantee people work very hard to offer a service others care about. That includes benefits to your neighbor, single mothers, libraries or the environment if there's a market for it. And there's always a market for clean water, fresh air, taking care of others, etc. Always. Political discourse today shows us there's a market for it.

In reply to this comment by dag:
It's just a useful metaphor for the combination of self-interest and the mechanism of supply and demand.

In a completely free market- self-interest is the only guiding rule. You can count on individuals to always do whatever provides them with the maximum benefit- too bad for the environment, your neighbors, single mothers and libraries.

the part they showed wasn't terrible. it reminded me of like kelly ripa being slowed down...
it's not like it's for a legit news source... it's just the today show.

and it's hard to give someone shit for "they're only on TV cause their dad is famous"... three quarters of the reality shows are given to people equally undeserving.

Of course people want "lower taxes" and "less spending"... those same people also want it done without touching education, public safety, infrastructure, social security, medicare, or the military.

You can win elections by promising to balance budgets, but as soon as you start cutting programs you get replaced by the next guy promising big buzz words with as few specifics as possible.

TDS: "Deductible Me" (aka: Republican fail) 8/11/10

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

The Neolib left swallow camels while straining at gnats on this point. The reason this gets traction is because the GOP as a party is the group that typically provides at least some action on the principles of small government and fiscal responsibility. Reagan cut taxes and wanted to cut spending (but couldn't as much as he wanted because of the Democrat congress). Democrats LOVE to say "CLINTON balanced the budget!" Bzzzt! The Presidency doesn't hold the purse. It was the 1994 Gingrich GOP congress that balanced the budget - against Clinton's wishes.

Conservative president cuts taxes: result = prosperity. Conservative congress reduces spending: result = prosperity. Sadly, there has never been both a conservative President & conservative Congress that together worked to BOTH cut taxes AND reduce spending at the same time. But when either of these two critical conservative platforms takes place (tax cuts & spending cuts) it is the GOP that is advancing them - not Democrats. This is why the GOP can plant a flag on the topic of deficits and the public buys it - however undeserved it may be for a particular generation of GOP politicians.

Hypocrisy? Sure. The GOP's performance on fiscal conservatism is spotty at best. Many of the GOP today have the same 'ruling class' mentality as the liberal left wing. Big government, big spending, tax happy jerkwads.

This is why people are so ticked off at them. They talk the talk, but don't walk the walk. The American public do not like leftist liberal policy. Every poll today shows that the overwhelming majority of the people want FISCAL CONSERVATISM. Tax cuts, spending cuts, and balanced budgets. This is what the people want, and what both the GOP and the Democrats refuse to give us. The left hates the Tea Party, but it only exists because the people identify more with Tea Party principles than they do with the GOP as it stands today.
