Not a bad cover - but Kurt is spinning in his grave. I've always wondered about the title - what does "Smells Like Teen Spirit" mean? I suspect that Miley Cyrus smells like teen spirit.

Cobain came up with the song's title when his friend Kathleen Hanna, at the time the lead singer of the Riot Grrrl punk band Bikini Kill, spray painted "Kurt Smells Like Teen Spirit" on his wall. Since they had been discussing anarchism, punk rock, and similar topics, Cobain interpreted the slogan as having a revolutionary meaning. What Hanna actually meant, however, was that Cobain smelled like the deodorant Teen Spirit, which his then-girlfriend Tobi Vail wore.

In a January 1994 Rolling Stone interview, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain revealed that "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was an attempt to write a song in the style of the Pixies, a band he greatly admired. He explained:[4]
“ I was trying to write the ultimate pop song. I was basically trying to rip off the Pixies. I have to admit it. When I heard the Pixies for the first time, I connected with that band so heavily that I should have been in that band— or at least a Pixies cover band. We used their sense of dynamics, being soft and quiet and then loud and hard.

Yeah it was manipulated. Apparently the guy with the youtube account where this vid came from specializes in that. I think he plays all the instruments individually in his studio then syncs then with a video. >> ^MilkmanDan:

I liked it. But wasn't the vocal track sampled straight off of the album version and then digitally time compressed to match the altered tempo? It had that slightly shrill sound that comes from time compression plus digital compensation for pitch.
So I guess I'm curious about how it was created.

Hmm.. Certainly works better than the anti-harmony of that other sift. I still feel as though it's lacking the more significant (and better) bits of the Daft song. Merely putting the "lyrical instruments" from one song into another doesn't automatically make that second song better. I just feel it was an unfair balance of the two pieces. Better than the weirdly-sounding sift, though, certainly.
