Must See TV: Breaking Bad (Blog Entry by lucky760)

the story of your decade in 3 paragraphs or less (History Talk Post)

gwiz665 says...

I grew up.

My grandparents died, my uncle died, I found love, I've found my profession, I woke up and smelled the coffee.

I went through high school and on to the university. I've dropped out of uni (computer science) once in 2005 and started on a new path in 2006 (information studies, game development). I almost have that finished now. I've been a slacker in school since forever, but now I'm better at it, so I keep up while slacking too.

I've had all the jobs I've ever had in the last decade, as a delivery guy for a lumber yard, selling fish to tourists, working with web development 2 separate times, have just gotten 2x internships as a game developer.

I've been depressed and overjoyed, luckily the last is lately. I've made a few enemies and a whole lot of friends. I've been disappointed by people and pleasantly surprised by others.

Jesse, I plan on trying to rent Reykjavik 101, I love the idea of an Icelandic slacker film. Tell me, have you ever seen Nói albínói?

No, I haven't seen that movie, but it does look good. I'll have to look out for it. I loved Reykjavik 101. Scandi films have a unique feel to them, I find. Reykjavik 101 is a good example that not all Scandinavian films have to be dark and brooding. I'd also suggest I am Curious (yellow and blue) from Sweden.

demon_ix Posseses Ruby! (Sift Talk Post)

demon_ix says...

The Google translation was pretty accurate, EndAll, but I'll take choggie's words in spirit, and not literally

Thanks everyone for the votes, the sifts, qualities and whatnot. Also thanks to gwiz665 for deciding this was a good day to get a ruby. Even despite his pinkish exterior, he's still sort of cool

Thanks dotdude for the post, and once I have a proper channel idea, I'll be sure to float it past some slackers in the lounge and get thoughts.

Now, ENJOY THE PAAAAAAAARRRRTTTTTTTTTYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

Mike Huckabee's Bizarre "Oprah & Health Care" Speech. WTF?

Drax says...

Actually it makes sense (I'm not saying he's right or wrong here in his logic though), though I get the impression he's trying to bring up as many fear instilling mentions as he can (the 'I don't want Oprah working on me' wasn't really needed in his argument).

What he's trying to say is that skilled and motivated people will flock to what pays the most. So if the wages of doctors go down, by his logic they'll seek other professions.. like becoming a wealthy TV personality, and thus people who are less motivated to become rich and less skilled because they're slackers or something will become doctors instead. Also by not having as comfortable a living they'll be less motivated to be awesome at their job since they'll be worried about making enough money (this may have SOME merit to it, but only if they're getting major salary reductions).

PREEEEETY sure people who want to become doctors BECOME DOCTORS.

^Education yes, but redistribution of wealth? Only slackers ask for that. With education, you don't need "redistribution of wealth".

Yes because its always been the case that the people with money worked harder to get it ,

i think you will find the people that earn the most money often do the least amount of work,

Hard work (enforced by parent & teacher Discipline) = Talent.
No sht. We're finally re-discovering what everyone knew 40 years ago.

It's something an entire slacker generation of illiterates, ruined by Montessori method touchyfeelyism, never learned.

Self directed "exploration" my Ass, bring back memorization and flashcards.

Looking forward to the new iPhone 3GS (Blog Entry by dag)

I do recognise that there is a large amount of hipster douchebaggery that goes along with all Apple products- especially the iPhone.

They do no service to themselves with their "cool slacker" VS. The Man type commercials.

I understand that this turns off a lot of people who would otherwise love the products.

I don't care - I love the shiny.

The Sift, Thoreau, and Civil Disobedience (Worldaffairs Talk Post)

dystopianfuturetoday says...

You are speaking of what is commonly referred to as Slacktivism.

(paraphrased from wiki)

[Slacktivism is slacker activism. The word is considered a pejorative term that describes taking "feel-good" measures, in support of an issue or social cause, that have little or no practical effect other than to make the person doing it feel satisfaction.

Examples of activities labeled as "slacktivist" include signing internet petitions, the wearing of wristbands with political messages, putting a ribbon magnet on a vehicle, joining a Facebook group, posting issue-oriented YouTube videos, complaining in chat rooms and comment threads or taking part in short-term boycotts.]
