Harry Belafonte - Day-O

noims says...

More than any other performer I often think how great it must have been for the guy who actually played the drums on The Muppet Show - his name was Ronnie Verrell - to get to play with some of the best and most famous drummers of the era, including full on drum battles with people like Buddy Rich.

Apparently (and, I suppose, obviously) he was a pretty accomplished drummer in his own right, but to play as animal must have been an absolute blast.

Actually, Henson probably would have LOVED it. His whole thing was to get puppets into places that they hadn't been before.

In fact, a pilot of The Muppet Show was originally called "The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence"

(the sex and violence name was there specifically to indicate that the show was NOT for kids)

What the absolute fuck? While I suspect this will be hilarious and I do want to watch it, Jim might rise from the dead and bitch-slap his son.

Insanely complicated wooden puzzle box

I'm not sure why he's so concerned about the time it takes to open it, it's a puzzle box after all and a good one should take some time.
Just don't use it to store your handguns.
Also, I just wish he'd start singing like the Swedish Chef from the Muppet Show, it would be spot on.

The Muppet Show - Featuring "Crew" Instead of "Puppets"

I don't think so. He sported the beard since the early 60's at the very least. None of these people seem to be the main puppeteers. Frank Oz isn't there either. These seem to be mostly the background people, production staff, cafeteria workers and the like.

I can't find evidence this even aired, even in the UK where the show was a couple to a few minutes longer and featured one extra skit. I think it was just a production staff (mainly the ATV production staff from the sound of them) tribute to the puppeteers.

Is that young, beardless kid, Jim Henson?

XCOM: Enemy Unknown first look

Mondo says...

I somewhat agree, although I wouldn't mind a look that is less-than-realistic. The original had some unrealistic elements (explosions would look like skulls and the armor was somewhat cartoony. In fact, the opening video had a comic book style to some parts). However, the original was far darker and scarier than this version. That is what I most want them to adjust. Just look how well lit the scenes are. Maybe it's my poor memory, but I remember a much darker, almost claustrophobic feel.

I'm playing it either way though, it's been too long since I've had a good XCOM experience.

As for the quick-save comment. Well, I seem to remember loading a game would suck pretty bad on a 386, to the point where reloading was a judgement call each time.

This looks a little more comical than I'd prefer. I loved the Lovecraftian style of TFTD and would have preferred to see more of it here.
Can't be as bad as Apocalypse, though. The Gamespot review nailed that when they said, "You'll feel as if you're waging war on the set of The Muppet Show." 15 years later and that quote is still the first thing I think of when I contemplate X-Com: Apocalypse.
