Microsoft Makes Fun of Apple

skinnydaddy1 says...

Wait, so your saying the cult of Microsoft is out voicing the cult of Apple now?? Say it ain't so! Fine I'll stick to my Notebook. No its just a pen and same paper not one of those new fangled toys. ")

That article nailed it.

Tablets aren't about getting classic "office work" done. For powerpoint, spreadsheets and documents, you're always better off with a laptop. (Which is what the surface really is - it's more laptop than tablet)

The really clever "work" being done with tablets is in enabling people to do things they never could have done with a typical computer or laptop...

There's a very, VERY vocal minority who is going to buy the Microsoft tablets. Which is fine... But I'll keep my iPad, thanks.

Why do British and American spellings differ?

Sepacore says...

The changing of 's' to 'z' is a bit annoying. Mainly due to Microsoft among others passing English (English) and English (Australian) off as being English (US) in their software's due to not including proper English for the respective language settings.

Worst Product Placement in TV

braindonut says...

Microsoft nearly ruined Bones with the same kind of product placements for Bing and Windows Phone. It would have been only slightly more jarring to cut to the show producers giving Microsoft blowjobs for money.

Also - hilarious how he has to set a little cardboard thing under the Surface, because you can't use it on your lap otherwise.

PS4 Announcement - Abridged Version

Jinx says...

I waiting to see what Valve's media PC/console will look like. Its interesting that they consider their main rivals in the contest for the living room to be Apple and not Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo.

PS4 Announcement - Abridged Version

Wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft wait with an announcement until E3 and take over the whole expo. It would certainly be the highlight of the whole event and it's not like it would get lost along with all the other news coming out of E3.
E3 2013 would be all about the next xbox and it's games and whatever sony comes out with wouldn't even matter.
If the Sony conference was all about dragons Microsoft would slay those dragons.

The question now is, does Microsoft show early or wait for E3 for the whole show? They could do an pre-E3 show and show how it should be done... This was just badly handled. I mean 2 hours for what could have taken 30 minutes tops... and I still would have at least showed the system.

I was underwhelmed to say the least during the presentation... Media Molecule got the biggest applause of the night. Got excited for a moment when Blizzard came out, then was let down by the Diablo 3 announcement, was hoping for something more exciting, but even if they release Titan on anything but PC they won't announce it at all until Blizzcon so not sure what I was expecting there... and yeah, the guy coming out to say we'll announce the next Final Fantasy at E3 was a cheap shot. And nothing really new from Destiny. I think the whole event was best summed up by XBox's Major Nelson who said something along the lines of "Have an event announcing your new console and not show it, that's one way of doing it."

I use my PS3 mostly for Bluray (it was by far the cheapest way into Bluray at the time) and Netflix (as my 360 sucks on Netflix on my network for some reason) and rarely games, that's what my PC is for and 360... It was nice to see it is indeed using x86 as rumored, and I was a little lost on why they didn't at least mention that it does have a Bluray drive during the event... something they mentioned in a followup press release as if they forgot...

It's interesting that the controller is not really "disruptive". No love for us lefties as usual.

Using the tablets/phones out there as controllers makes a lot of sense.

But really that controller needs a bit of work.

These Android consoles will do well based on their cost. Sony and Microsoft have only sold about 70m units each I believe. There's scope to sell to far more people in a different part of the market.

That said I'm playing Far Cry 3 at the moment and a magnificent experience like that might not be seen too often on these new platforms.

Oh, also - a 3 bedroom basic house will cost you at least $500K here in most major city suburbs and mortgage interest is over 6%. Yeah, Australia is expensive. :-(.

On the plus side, the labour market is very tight, especially if you are in IT, and say, working in the Microsoft stack. .Net or Sharepoint developers with a bit of experience make over $1,500 a day contracting.
