after watching michelle gomez knock it out of the park playing missy (formerly known as the "master"),and knowing the lore of the timelords that they do,in fact,change gender.i do not really see what all the fuss is about.

i love capaldi and i think his doctor could have been better with stronger material,because when the stories were good,capaldi really shined.

and i am exactly where @mram is at.i too,thought matt smith would flub it and was pleasantly proved wrong.(though i still am a tennant and baker fan).

let's hope the new female doctor has some good material to work with,and see how she runs......

I grew up on Tom Baker. I have loved and hated some Doctors as they came and went.

What I've learned: give anyone a chance. They might surprise you, and often do. But if they don't, let it go - it's not the end of the show. Matt Smith I thought would be awful (Too young! No skills!) and I was completely and utterly wrong, and happy to be wrong. Life gives you easy lessons sometimes.

Its funny how you get attached to different doctors. I started watching again near the end of Tennant's run. When Matt Smith came on, I was blown away. After going back and watching all modern episodes, he's been my favorite by far. He was quirky with the ability to be seriously dramatic when needed.

And a lot of credit has to go to the companions as well. I mean, Amy, come on.

Looking forward to the new doctor. Couldnt get into Capaldi.

Probably not, since he plays a Marvel villain, but in the words of Stephen Amell, "Andrew [Kreisberg; Arrow, Flash and LoT producer] is such a Whovian, [....] I can tell you that if there was even the faintest chance that [Matt Smith] is available, he would be hired immediately". I hope he'll play Rip Hunter's traveling companion one day.

It would be nice to have a doctor that sticks around for more than a couple seasons.

Didn't care for Matt Smith a whole lot, but I think I am biased because I believe he's the first Doctor to be younger than me. Just something wrong about that.

Shame this misses Matt Smiths wonderful 4th wall breaking monologue.

Perfect timing on this sift. My wife and I watched Matt Smith's debut for the first time last night. I already like him, but I think she still has the hots for David Tennant.

This is my favorite Matt Smith episode and one of my favorite episodes ever.

Did anyone else find him vaguely reminiscent of Matt Smith?

I'd also recommend starting with the first series of 2005, but it's also possible to start with the fifth series (2010, the first one featuring Matt Smith as The Doctor), because it's kind of a new beginning and a redefinition of the show, and, if I remember correctly, most things you need to know are explained again.
