Mariah Carey may be washed up, but I'd still do her. I'm not a sexist, but I realize that's probably a sexist statement. I still remember when she was young, and though her songs were lame she still had the voice of an angel.

(Long, lame, nostalgic bullshit warning)

It reminds of a girl with whom I used to work. At the time I was 23 and she was 18, and yet at that time I felt our age difference was vast. I thought I was so urbane and sophisticated because I was a whole 5 years older than her. Yeah, I was one of those guys who felt sophisticated at the mature age of 23. Crucifixion deserved.

The fact of the matter is that she was hot enough to relegate my 5+ year seniority to the dumpster because she was also a smart, funny, beautiful person who didn't feel the need to succor the delusions of a twenty-something individual to maintain her sense of self-worth.

So what am I trying to say? God DAMN all you smart and beautiful woman, that's what. And the less smart, less beautiful women too. You all get what you deserve: Never getting my company. So live with it. And you BEST not tell me you're over it already.

Because that would break my heart.

Bah. I love Bill Mahr, but I can't get behind this clip.

I'm a hardcore feminist, and to me that means that I believe that chicks are awesome and should be treated like people. For the record, I also believe that guys are awesome and should be treated like people.

I disagree with Mahr's assertion that American values have become feminized. I do think American popular culture has increasingly come to value polarized, extremist expressions of gender, with our faux manly war mongering Connecticut-born cowboy in chief on the one hand and increasingly stylized and abstract representations of femininity on the other (Mariah Carey, Anna Nicole, etc.).

I think that what Mahr calls "feminine values" are more accurately attributable to a trend away from personal responsibility. Let's not talk about how to fix things or how to be a good citizen or how to get things done. Let's whine about our feelings and talk about how our children are in terrible danger from sexual predators or tinfoil or whatever the threat of the day may be. It's not that we've all turned into chicks, it's that so many of us have turned into soft bellied unthinking buttmonkeys.

That's as absurd as saying that one musician should write one song that should work for all occasions. I don't think "Someday" by Mariah Carey would work for a professional wrestler's intro music, and I sure don't want to hear "Genie in a Bottle" by Xtina at my best friend's funeral...

She actually does have a great powerful projection voice but she uses for tat like this, I mean look at what Whitney is putting out now. Same with with Mariah Carey for a while.
