Jon Stewart is angry at Rick Santelli and CNBC

peggedbea says...

i would have no problem making less money or paying higher taxes if it actually bought anything. and thanks to my house and my two precious little tax credits, i barely pay any taxes anyway.

the problem with the american health care system isnt completely economic anyhow. there is a culture of abuse in our attitudes towards health. i am certainly not saying this applies to all americans. but i have spent the last 7 years of my life working in an ER and watching the system be ritualisitcally abused, mostly by people ignorant of how to treat or prevent minor illnesses without jacking up a $10,000 ER bill or by dr's needing to make some extra money and ordering needless exams. or by the hospital administration saying "we want to buy a new MRI, order more MRI's so we can justify it!" oh, also when you earn less than you need to take care of yourself, diet, exercise and preventative applications fall by the wayside. its far cheaper to eat cheetos and frozen pizza than it is to eat fruits and vegetables. hooray obesity related illnesses! and besides think of all the money there is too be made off of diabetes and blood pressure medication. and in every town some dr is making a killing off bariatric surgery. fuck it, lets eat our way out of this mess. its time we experimented with an economy based in potato chip and lipitor sales.

He took a solemn vow to not cut his hair until he manages to build a cat-proof fence. 7 years and counting. If he ever manages it, his local barbershop will make a killing.

Israeli Media Airs Suppressed Video

jake says...

quantumushroom, your point seems like it's almost akin to 'they hate us because we're free' - I understand it's a complex situation but the reality of it can be summed up by answering this simple question: 'why are people firing rockets at Israel?'

The administration of Israel has pushed living conditions in the Palestinian 'areas' below anything you or me would class as acceptable for ourselves.

For years, long before this attack, citizens of Palestine could not get health care, they cannot go to school, they cannot drive anywhere due to roadblocks. New settlements are built on Palestinian land, the people have no choice but to leave their homes and become refugees.

There is a giant wall around their area of the country, 'protecting' Israel from them.

It's fucking apartheid and now their making the killing stroke. How much more land do you think Israel will 'settle' on after everyone in Palestine escapes to Egypt or is killed?

Sadly, even with all the protests, they've basically been given carte blanch by the American media to do whatever they want.

Watchmen Fan Cordially Invited Fox to Eat All The Dicks (Cinema Talk Post)

rottenseed says...

Warner Bros. should know better. I agree that it was shitty for Fox to do, but come on did WB think that Fox forgot about it? WB should have asked permission before making the movie. Begging forgiveness isn't always easier than asking permission, in fact it woulda saved them MILLIONS.

Smartest thing to do now is to settle by giving Fox a big cut of ticket sales but a much smaller percent of DVD sales, then way under-advertise, spin some online controversy to get movie nerds to boycott the theater showings and make a killing on DVD sales. Cult classic status may be the only way to go...at least it would be a big f*ck you to Fox.

To Catch A Predator Sued for $105 Million

Mi1ler says...

Police raid a house without a search warrant, man kills self. Police had no right to intrude into his house which was the probable catalyst for making him kill himself. Bottom line they went in without a search warrant better question why are you only chasing after NBC?

It seems that by not bringing the police into it you make your case stronger by saying that the party at fault is a 3rd party that isn't associated with the justice process and they are a corrupting force. The fact that police are going along with them seems to be being pushed under the rug in the face of putting all the blame on NBC. Even given the nature of the show and not to defend the guilty parties that are apprehended in the show but if the police are giving up confidential information and being coerced the news just wants its entertainment it's going to do ask and try to get this information the fact that the police are giving it up worries me more.

As despicable and disgusting an act internet predation is the law is still there to protect the rights of all parties even though many times we may not care if the seemingly guilty party has its rights removed.

The fact that this story focuses on making you see NBC as the bad guy is interesting.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi talks about high gas prices

Farhad2000 says...

The high price of gas is a natural reaction of the worldwide energy market. Demand is increasing yet supplies are basically still the same below ground, instability has increased and not decreased.

Of course most of those price fluctuations are speculative, Big oil profits actually increased not decreased. Because it's being played on the market, while external factors affecting the oil supply did increase, the supply actually has been expanding in terms of extraction and prospecting, so the oil companies are basically making a killing under the guise of supply instability and price fluctuations. The oil companies of course increase the prices on what is most suitable for their profits, the fact that high energy costs actually stagnant the economy in the long run. The only way that will change is if the self-interest of the American people as a whole and not as individuals or as corporations start to decide on what is best for the country.

America finds itself in the strange position of having to wane off oil dependence while at the same time still relying on world trade oil in US dollars to fund it's gigantic debt.

Lions vs. Hyenas - Raw

silvercord says...

This is great footage of the ongoing battle between lions and hyenas for food on the Savannah.

The backstory is this: the lions make a kill. The hyenas drive them off. Lions get pissed and the next day the alpha male goes and dusts off the big matriarch of the hyenas.

Truly amazing stuff. I believe it's a National Geographic production.

I saw this documentary years ago and it was called something like "Rulers of the Night." I can't remember anything more than that.

.....my favorite now too, ChosenOne....reminds me of the homeless character Wayans invented on Living Colour.....that would actually scare the shit outta someone...has anyone ever seen the two-man busque, with an unwitting couple playing the "straight" man, and a gathering crowd paying money to the team for the spectacle of scaring the dupes??? I saw a brother with a used christmas tree, popping up to scare passers by in San Fran making a killing!!!
