What R2D2 really said in Episode 1

Farhad2000 says...

This is a horrible film.

- It makes it seem like a kid can destroy an entire planetary force ALONE.
- It destroyed the entire Jedi power mythos through blood test. Couldn't they just say "I feel something about this child... some power"
- The dialog is stupid and inane because almost everything was a fabricated set behind a green screen.
- It was directed by Greoge Lucas, who knows NOTHING about directing actual human beings. Empire strikes back was the best because it was actually directed by a character director.

I could go on but I don't get paid to do this and I need to do drugs now to forget how stupid Episode 1 was.

Yaaay, finally some cool scifi thing becomes real

How stupid. This is not a hologram in the sense that they are presenting. The captured image is a hologram but they are faking the projection.

It's live compositing with remote camera matching. In reality Wolf is staring at an empty space. They could have made the "hologram" look more like the person was actually in the room but they stylized it to make it look as if it's projected into thin air.

All you need are a couple matched motion control camera setups synchronized between the two locations, a green screen at the remote location, and some video mixing software.

I'm impressed by the capture technology, but totally sickened by the attempt to misrepresent its potential as some type of thin-air, true 3D projected hologram.

How bizarre...the video almost looks green-screened (the front-left especially looks strangely fake). I'm sure it isn't, but it's a very jarring effect, and I really wonder how the camera managed to convey the surrealism.

I get so happy when Republicans give speeches in front of green screens now! Aside from that, they are making it really easy for the Daily Show to point out inconsistencies in their message.

According to Fox News, the "green screen" behind him is the lawn of a the Walter Reed Jr. High School in North Hollywood.

I heard this on NPR as well.

Apparently someone typed in 'Walter Reed' in an video search engine and took the first pretty one that came up (not realizing it was a Junior High School and not the military hospital) and obviously didn't bother to ask if they could use this public school's image as a backdrop to a political convention talk.

NPR also reported that their use of "Barracuda" by the band Heart was done without asking permission (though the GOP did pay a blanket licensing fee to ASCAP), and the band and their label have filed a 'cease and desist' order against the Republican Party. Heart also said the use was "ironic" because the term 'barracuda' in the song represents the soulless music business of the 70's.

So much for the security party. If they can't prevent protesters from invading their little event, how are they supposed to protect us from those horrible mooslum turrists?

And guys, the green screen again? Walter Reed high school? Oh holy crap, they can't even find a stock photo of Walter Reed Hospital? I'm sure the retarded delegates in attendance didn't bat an eye.
