LOTR Forced Perspective Moving Camera
>> ^PancakeMaster:
I had no idea this is how they pulled it off. I'm so happy that they did this rather than CGI or green-screening!!!
I hope they will do it again for The Hobbit trilogy movies!

Looks a bit like Daniel Tosh.
was totally going to say it looks like Daniel Tosh green screened himself into this one.
Oz: The Great and Powerful - First Trailer
i'm not sure that actors interacting with green screens and CGI will ever make a truly GREAT film.
there's just too much disconnect there to carry any real emotional weight.
but it looks like a tasty 3d treat.
'The Star Wars That I Used To Know'
I felt like there was a missed opportunity for a "green screen" joke there at the end, but yeah, pretty great. (Especially for a "yet another Gotye, yet another George Lucas" parody.)
Monsters University Teaser (Pixar)
Some of you that get the blank screen, try right clicking and going into settings and turning of hardware acceleration. It may or may not work, or like was said, try restarting it. Make sure to restart the video too, duh... (This especially works for those of you getting the "green screen" as well--same thing restart the video as in, reload the webpage if a simple restart on the video doesn't work!)
What in the hell would Disney be doing without Pixar (and that hilarious lawsuit)? They'd have ABC (or would they?) and have enough money left over from Lost to make three movies, tops.
Final Destination 5 - Visual effects for the opening scene

The way they throw money at a greenscreen to avoid having to actually film stuff. I'm sure the animators are working very hard and are extremely good at what they do, but all impressiveness of a special effect is lost for me when it's computer rendered. They're over relying on green screening to such a ridiculous degree, even in areas where it's completely unnecessary, that it totally breaks my immersion.
Also, I'm pretty sure they could do this scene with practical effects if they at all cared about the art of film making. The physical restrictions of actors and effects were one of the reasons film makers had to be innventive, which did lead to interestingly shot scenes.
I'm sure they'd do it all practically if it were possible, affordable and safe. Not much of this scene is.

Prometheus - First Trailer
>> ^Ryjkyj:
So, is it like an "Alien" prequel? Or maybe a way later sequel? You gotta love that a lot of the imagery here is borrowed from Cameron's "Aliens", and of course, Giger.
If it IS is a prequel, I gotta wonder if they'll still be using green-screen monitors on their spaceships.
EDIT: oh yeah, it's all there on IMDB but I won't spoil it for anyone.
That's because Dan O'Bannon recruited Giger for the alien creature design after working with him on Jodorowsky's failed attempt to make Dune.
Prometheus - First Trailer
Yep, that big horse-shoe shaped ship is the ship from the first two Alien movies. Halfway through you can see the cockpit pop up that is in the first movie as well. >> ^Ryjkyj:

Yes, this is the Stargate Studio reel edited with new music.
Stargate Studios are my homeboys, I live a few blocks from their offices. Check out their site for more behind the scenes shots.

could have sworn this was a dupe, but it actually just has a lot of the same scenes from this sift: http://videosift.com/video/Green-Screen-What-you-see-is-an-illusion
It's fascinating stuff, and its obvious they've got themselves a good string of work there from the studios. Their pure VFX work is less impressive than the 'virtual backlot' stuff though, it has to be said... which I guess demonstrates that it's a lot harder to convincingly add in fire, destruction, moving elements. Adding in, effectively, digital matt paintings (that move and change perspective, but still), is a lot easier job.
But they do good work... good work.
I would imagine they work on tiny budgets and ridiculous timeframes with those shows.

Another example of NASA technology used in industry. The first green screens were how they faked the moon landing.
