In theory we can do that for the house of reps at any election and the senate every other election, but in practice it will never happen. The U.S. system does also permit the possibility of democracy breaking out, but it would take a concerted effort over a number of years.

It's not something we vote on though, it would take an election.

MilkmanDan said:

That "ghost voting" shit is infuriating. We elect these fucks to do *one* thing -- represent us by voting for their constituents interests in the legislature. But instead, apparently they'd rather spend time doing other things, like "entertaining" lobbyists.

We need that rule like I remember Australia (any Aussie sifters confirm that?) having, where the public can vote to "take a mulligan" and completely sweep out every single member of the legislature.

marc maron-no safe spaces for men anymore

artician jokingly says...

@enoch I believe him! you are!

Though truly, something like this happened to me as well, but it wasn't this confrontational, and it was totally my fault. I was taking photos of a bunch of kids playing in the park. It was during a community concert, in the daytime, where my partner was playing in the band. It was great, lots of action, good lighting, fun times, etc. One of the parents just approached me at one point and chatted to me a bit, which I realized later was probably a family representative making first contact with a potential threat to the community.

Ha ha! Prison-sentence: Avoided!

As a 'friend of the band' I usually volunteered to photograph their concerts, which probably helped get me off the hook. Regardless, the atmosphere was such, and those moments were so timeless, that it just didn't feel wrong.

(which is *totally* what a molester would say!)

Happy dance when Bandit the Steer was released from chains

newtboy says...

I can never understand farmers that can do this kind of thing to their animals simply for a little extra convenience in their work. I think those people are evil without exception. One can't work with animals and not see them as living beings with needs and feelings without a concerted, intentional effort to ignore it.
There is not a vertebrate alive who's entire lifespan is meant to be spent in one place and/or in one position.
We decided this kind of thing is torture, why are people still allowed to do it? What benefit could there be beyond keeping the bull from screwing the cows and/or making it easy to feed them, tasks that good fencing does quite well without the torture?

00Scud00 jokingly says...

So, clapping is wrong and offensive? Er... What do you do if one of your group members turns out to have had a traumatic experience while attending a Jazz concert? What then? I only ask because in theory we could go on and on like this until Jesus comes back. Oh sorry, do religious references offend you?
Sorry about that, oh and sorry for being white, and sorry for being male and identifying with the gender I was born with (with the occasional kink here and there). If I keep this up people might think I'm Canadian, oh, wait, that was probably insensitive to Canadians, sorry about that too.

Freddie Mercury's Isolated Vocals From We Are The Champions

September 1982, Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver. One of my favourite concerts, awesome showman. Freddie threw his mic stick into the audience at the end and beaned some poor girl.

Kiwi Pronounces eYes

Payback says...

I feel for him. I constantly get mind-stuck like that. Get locked into a pattern that takes a concerted effort to back out of. Especially if I'm concentrating on, or preoccupied with, something else.

I probably would have figured it out faster and just started being pigheaded about it, though. Then made the joke of when she asked, "what does eYes mean?" I would have replied "the opposite of eNo."

Dave grohl once again proving he's awesome.

Exercise is NOT the Key to Weight Loss

youdiejoe says...

My personal journey these past couple of years is one that certainly reflects the points made in both of his videos on the this topic.

I started with modifying my calorie heavy diet in concert with a sustainable fitness level. Diet was straight forward reduce meat, eat more veggies, eat less or no processed foods. I started with walking 5 miles a day and have moved on to jogging that distance every other day.

My optimum weight based on my height and build puts me between 170-180 pounds, the last time I was at the weight was 25 years ago. During those intervening years I had managed to put on as much as 65 pounds of extra weight. With making the changes I outlined above I was able to get back down to 180 pounds in a little less than a year and I have been steady at that weight since. Also... I was able to do all that while hitting my 50th birthday.

Making your goals sustainable in both diet and exercise is the key.

Fishing For Drones

LiquidDrift says...

Drones are already getting annoying and will soon be a scourge. You think people with selfie-sticks are annoying? How about a 2 foot buzzing machine in your eyeline while you're trying to *insert any peaceful or enjoyable event*. I've already seen them at concerts and fireworks and they definitely take away from the show. Good shot Mr. Fisherman, good shot.

Tears For Fears plays "Everybody Wants To Rule The World"

Smashing Pumpkins "Zero" live by Evanescence

Stormsinger says...

I prefer her original material, to be honest.

I got to see one of her performances last year. I was incredibly hyped over it, and ended up being -so- disappointed. It was a very small venue, and yet the volume was cranked up so high that it was physically painful. Second loudest concert I've ever seen, and utterly distracting. I could barely recognize the songs, and could understand none of the words. Might as well have gone to the airport and stood beside jets winding up for takeoff.
