She's obviously looking at the queue and thinking/planning several moves ahead (like a chess player would), but then, I think, the speed would also have to come down to the actual interface and how responsive the controller is in conjunction with the CPU. Not to say that it isn't impressive. Just considering what this *skillfulness probably entails...

He's one of the best chess players in the world! Maybe everyone is just too used to the 'non-answers' that most pro-athletes tend to give. Unlike pro-sports, top chess players tend to actually give truthful and detailed answers that don't assume the audience is completely ignorant. I'm a casual player myself and was able to follow this. Granted he has a strong accent and talks rapidly but I was still able to follow it.

The other thing you have to keep in mind is that he's answering this question within the context of the game he just played. If you didn't watch the game, or don't have the positions in front of you then yah, this answer would essentially be meaningless.

The interviewer, Bianca Muhren, is a chess grandmaster herself.

She's standing there thinking 'I guess chess people will understand this shit'.
