The Orb - Assasin

Farhad2000 says...

The Orb are an English electronic music group known for popularising chill out music in the 1990s and spawning the genre of ambient house. Founded in 1988 by Alex Paterson and KLF member Jimmy Cauty, The Orb began as ambient and dub DJs in London. Their early performances were inspired by ambient producers, most notably Brian Eno, and German artists such as Kraftwerk. Because of their "trippy" sound, they developed a cult following among clubbers "coming down" from drug-induced highs. Despite many personnel changes, Alex Paterson has maintained The Orb's science fiction themes and visually-intensive live performances. Their frequent use of unlicensed samples has been a source of contention and legal disputes with other record labels and artists.

Velvet Underground - Venus in Furs (Factory Gang Version)

Farhad2000 says...

My all time favorite VU song.

The Velvet Underground (sometimes abbreviated as The Velvets or VU) was an American based rock band first active from 1965 to 1973. Its best-known alumni are Lou Reed and John Cale.

Although never commercially successful during their time, The Velvet Underground remains an influential rock band; a famous remark, often attributed to Brian Eno, is that while only a few thousand people bought a Velvet Underground record upon their initial release, almost every single one of them was inspired to start a band.

The Velvet Underground was one of the first rock music groups to incorporate avant-garde influences. The group's often raw, sometimes difficult sound influenced many later punk, noise rock, and alternative music performers, and singer Lou Reed's lyrics brought new levels of social realism and sleaze to rock. Critics Scott Isler and Ira Robbins argue that "The Velvet Underground marked a turning point in rock history. After the release of The Velvet Underground and Nico, knowing the power of which it was capable, the music could never be as innocent, as unselfconscious as before."

Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather
Whiplash girlchild in the dark
Clubs and bells, your servant, dont forsake him
Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart

Downy sins of streetlight fancies
Chase the costumes she shall wear
Ermine furs adorn the imperious
Severin, severin awaits you there

I am tired, I am weary
I could sleep for a thousand years
A thousand dreams that would awake me
Different colors made of tears

Kiss the boot of shiny, shiny leather
Shiny leather in the dark
Tongue of thongs, the belt that does await you
Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart

Severin, severin, speak so slightly
Severin, down on your bended knee
Taste the whip, in love not given lightly
Taste the whip, now plead for me

I am tired, I am weary
I could sleep for a thousand years
A thousand dreams that would awake me
Different colors made of tears

Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather
Whiplash girlchild in the dark
Severin, your servant comes in bells, please dont forsake him
Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart

According to someone on YT the tracks are both from "Apollo Atmospheres & Soundtracks" by Brian Eno.

Track 1 is "Deep Blue Day" and track 2 is "A Secret Place".

The artist actually has a pretty extensive Wikipedia entry, but here's the pertinent one for this album: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo:_Atmospheres_and_Soundtracks

It turns out he actually composed this album as an accompaniment to footage of the Apollo program, so I think it works well with this footage.

Best Movie Gunfight: Heat (5:41)

Love that Brian Eno music loop, and that Mann miked the gunshots instead of looping sounds in post. I remember seeing this in the theater, and the volume of the gunshots and the echo made it really scary, like a gunfight should be.
