There's a Counter on this Ball

schmawy says...

"Skip-It is a children's toy invented by Victor Petrusek and manufactured by Tiger Electronics. During its initial release in the late-1980s, the Skip-It apparatus became a commercial success through its avid advertisements on daytime Nickelodeon broadcasting as well as other children's programming. The 'Skip-It' apparatus was designed to be affixed to the child's ankle via a small plastic hoop and spun around in a 360 degree rotation while continuously skipped by the user.

During a second production occurring in the early-1990s, the toy was manufactured with a counter on the Skip-It ball; designed to make the number of skips impeccably accurate.

Some Skip-It's have colorful glitter filled and covered plastic decorations that can be slid on and of the make colorful paterns.

There was a model which may have been called skiparoo or skip-a-roo that is from the 60's that was all plastic and had a red bell-shaped end.

There was also a model called the "lemon twist" which was made in the seventies. It was black PVC piping and had a big lemon at the end. It had little rocks inside that made noise as you twisted.

Marshall Swails of Irmo, SC won the 1995 World Skip-It Open at the 1995 Toy Congress in Wolfsburg, Germany. He skipped 300,546 times on his custom glitter filled Skip-It. What was remarkable about this achievement was that Swails was the only sponsored entrat, endorsing both Keds and BIKE. He worse simple white, canvas Keds and a pair of skin tight BIKE bicycle shorts with his name on the side. He did not wear a shirt." -[wikip.]

NY Governor Eliot Spitzer caught in prostitution scandal

HadouKen24 says...

A New York governor had sex with prostitutes? Say it ain't so!

Honestly, I really dislike news organizations' going after this kind of thing with such avidity. Our sexual lives are private. One's sexual behavior has nothing to do with one's abilities in public office.

Tenacious D - Tribute Live, Including Tribute To SOAD

alien_concept says...

I expect you're right, I'm merely an avid listener and no expert on playing instruments, I just thought the first bit sounded similar voice-wise, but with the JB twist. What reason do you think they would have played it sloppy on purpose? Wouldn't surprise me, seeing as they are more than capable, like you say

Where do you go for videos these days? (besides here) (Sift Talk Post)

Fedquip says...

Damn..im old, I remember the days when you really had to hunt, I used to be an avid Farker as well, hell remember ebaums world?

I do go back to fark and have checked out their video section.

I used to (and still kinda do) follow the blogs - Onegoodmove.org, Crooksandliars, mediamatters - Those websites were great in the early 00's when video blogging was still young, those guys really let picked out the gems from Television.

I have collected so many youtube subscriptions over the years I dont have to go far to find a good clip or two. I also have a few links that follow documentaries, Heres one that I just recently bumped into. I have more lists then I do hours in the day.

Otherwise I use Stumble Video as well...not as often as I would like.
When I have time I like to check out newer places, as Dag Mentioned Funny or Die is a great place from what I can see and Redlasso is still in Beta so it might be usefull for the sift yet.

A Letter from HELL!

8426 says...

Wow... I finally got to watch this, and I've gotta say; those are some well thought out scare tactics there.
What I find particularly amusing is that Josh has heard of Hell, knew it was called the Lake of Fire, but never heard of Jesus?
Unless Josh's parents kept him in a closet, and tied a blindfold around his eyes, and deafened his ears when he went to school, Josh couldn't possibly have missed hearing about Jesus.
References to God and Jesus are in nearly everything we see on a daily basis, they're constantly on the news, if you've got cable, how could you possibly miss the "God channels" while you're flipping through, looking for something to watch?
Even if you were taught at a young age to avoid Jesus, the Bible, and the everything to do with God, you would want to know why... your curiosity would get the better of you one day... you would read something, watch something, listen to someone.
Not to mention that those people go out and actively seek out new members as avidly as any other religious group.

Even the President makes references to God.

This is just sick, twisted bulls**t... and I'd like those people who made this to remember what Jesus said to his disciples;

Luke 14:33 (RSV) "Whoever of you does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple."

So, you modern followers of God and Jesus; cast off your BMWs, cast off your cable shows, cast off your million dollar homes... if you're going to claim devotion, show us your devotion.

The needs of many bring about the tyranny of good intentions. I know my icon is so representatively on the nose of that idea that it's gross to consider it as a realistic philosophy, but that doesn't mean the idea should be lost in ru thoughts. The tyranny of good intentions doesn't only pertain to the great social fascists of current, but also may pertain to this site's admin in a very, very subtle way.

"personal hatred of your collusive policies" haha -dude- I'm just a guy sitting in my underwear on my laptop in the kitchen, not Idi Amin. But that's cool- if you would like to see me as "the man" then you are welcome to joust away.

In reply to this comment by blankfist:
Your comment wasn't smug at all, was it? I shake my head at you now, dag. Didn't we have our conversation about this already? Wasn't I already an avid participant of conversation and dialog? This really has nothing to do with baseless sarcasm, dag, but has everything to do with my personal hatred of your collusive policies. That's all. You know what you did that pisses me off right now, so don't act as if I'm thoughtlessly disgruntled. I'm not some dumbass thirteen year old who is incapable of asserting himself.

I bet you look forward to seeing me around. I bet you do. Well, if it's any consolation, I hope to be around for a very long, long, long time ensuring what I perceive as small injustices aren't met without some form of resistance. Cheers.

In reply to this comment by dag:
OK, well- good luck with that then. The Sift thrives with a diversity of opinion- but the sarcasm in that thread and this one is kind of asinine- you're welcome to keep at it, but if you're planning to set yourself up as a serious critic, I'm a little disappointed you are not engaging in real dialogue. Sarcasm is a poor man's wit. But anyway, thanks for contributing, and look forward to seeing you around.

In reply to this comment by blankfist:
Yeah... and then again... no. Dag, I have taken a bit of a hiatus from this site, because of my personal and political differences with some of your decisions - which I haven't kept a secret, really. But as you know I've been more than a generous patron. So, before you try to cast me off easily with a tap of a few keys and with a couple self-righteous invocations, let me announce proudly that I've proffered a larger amount than most other members with my generous contributions - I never intended to receive award or praise for this, but, there it is all pink and naked now.

Charter membership is set at a low rate, but that's not my fault. When you had a money drive, I was one of the first (the very FIRST) to offer twice what was asked for a t-shirt. Oh, dearest dag, I've been more than a loyal supporter, so I find it in great disgust for you to insinuate I leave this community. That's more than a smack in the face, it's just terrible, really.

I refuse to leave this community on my own accord, but instead I hope I can offer a objective and constantly contrary perspective. This is a private company's site, so feel free to banish me as you see fit. But, don't expect me to sit idly by when you write such things as, "and if you find the current climate here disagreeable you are welcome to sample other communities."

Not a touch disgusting? No?

In reply to this comment by dag:
OK, whatever - so you were being sarcastic. It's late for me to be playing comment games. I'll leave you to your disgruntlement.

But before you set yourself up as the beacon of self-rightous social justice- may I just suggest that the Internet is a very big place- and if you find the current climate here disagreeable you are welcome to sample other communities.

In reply to this comment by blankfist:

Siftquisition: Quantumushroom (Sift Talk Post)

laura says...

looks to me like a bad day/spat/over-reaction thingy on the part of QM, like maybe he was really drunk and 28 out of 35 was as far as he could go before he passed out, then what if he stays in bed for 24 hours because of the hangover and misses the siftquisition and then finds out he was banned? oopsie.
I'm just kidding, my way of trying to see what could have happened because even from my15minutes' description there really wasn't anything I could see that would spur a downvote spree, so obviously there is more we don't know...
he looks like an avid downvoter (opinion based on record) so perhaps he was just genuinely disliking 28 out of 35 of his vids, once he got into a list of sifted vids from a guy who isn't of a like mind w/ him.
I'd say this could potentially be brushed off, but I would recommend to him not downvoting any more of my15minutes stuff because otherwise.... (insert favorite threat here).

Even Bill Gates thinks Vista sucks !

9825 says...

Well, I have read through the entire thread. Very interesting comments and some not so. I think you have to take a look at what each platform offers to the end user and what restrictions each platforms have or manifest.

Apple/MAC, great over all. Their products hardware are somewhat *proprietary, which is good for full hardware compatibility and driver/software stability but lacks in providing affordable and available hardware. In my opinion, this is where Apple has made its standing as a stable OS but also restricting the end user from the newest graphics card or affordable RAM (have you seen the prices for that lately). There is not as much support for available software as those supported by XP/Vista(*not as much as XP but growing fast) as well.

Microsoft, on the other hand, IMO, has taken a different step in which they have great support for all new hardware and most software. Driver stability stands to test and most issues are due to people building their own workstations that have little clue of hardware compatibility or driver issues. I am far from being a MS fanboy as I own both, but I own several workstations, administer many, many more and administer a MS based server farm... all without these issues some of you speak of. I run Vista with all my applications and have not run into a problem not have I experienced any BSODs since my last hardware failure.

Both systems have thier own place in the market... but I prefer XP/Vista as I am an avid gamer in the off time.

Is Bill a slimeball? I hardly think so, unless all business men are, and if that is fact, then I guess I am as well. MS is a buisiness, look and treat it as others. Remarking on business practices because of admiration of one company or disdain for another is humorous at best.

Feel free to pick this apart and correct where I have been wrong, for I am not perfect, far from it actually.

First of all, I was an avid player of DN3D. I was fairly skilled at making maps also. So, there's no bitterness here. However...

This project is nothing more than a retirement program. By taking so long to complete and release a product, they continue to fall prey to newer technology. Also, during the "development" of this product, the MMORPGS have carved a good slice out of the gaming market. How is this game gonna compete with CoD4? A dead cat...
