The Development Disaster behind macOS

ulysses1904 says...

I had my Mac Classic for years, then got a Quadra 605, then Quadra 630. Then my favorite of all was the dual core G5 I got in 2003, I could play Call of Duty online while rendering 3D animations in the background without any performance hit. Then a Mac mini and finally a 27" iMac with a dual boot with Windows 10.

Long time Apple fan.

Still have my SE30 on a shelf in the garage. 9 inch BW monitor was the bomb in its day.

Third year?

Wow... in my third year of animation I knew how objects move.

Mind you, I'd been working professionally for 2 of those years.

This guy hasn't got a clue. Both the pendulum effect and the way objects move in the air is completely off. The pendulum is especially sad, since most 3d animation programs have a default movement curve which perfectly simulates that sort of motion.

UNREAL PARIS - Virtual Tour - Unreal Engine 4

Curious says...

Nothing was moved or interacted with in the entire clip, so it leads me to believe that all of the lighting and shadows were simply pre-calculated and baked on as a texture. In the same manner, the reflections are most likely environmental cube maps, rendered in 3D animation software with all the settings turned up and then saved as an image. If something besides the camera were moving then I would be impressed.

3D Object Manipulation from a Single Photo

This is little, or almost no, different from integrating 3D animation into any movie. They've got some mechanisms to make it easier perhaps, but they don't really show how much easier they've made things.

Don't spoil with your channel selection! Fortunately, I hadn't looked at the channels beforehand, so I was totally surprised!

Still, it's probably a fake made by those Canadian 3d animation students.

How is babby formed? A 3D animated response.

Music is from the Neverhood game soundtrack.

I don't think David Kamp (credited for "audio" in this short) was a composer or otherwise with that, so I hope they're not claiming the music as their own.

The audio made by David Kamp for this short was deleted and replaced by audio copypasta by a film student. It would be nice if someone could just find the original film. Here's the youtube description:

As a sound design project I came across this 3D animation called Parallel Parking by Agile Films directed by Yum Yum. Sorry David Kamp I deleted your stuff... but this was a sound design project. All rights to the makers etc. Music by Terry Scott Taylor, and sound effects from Freesound. (Next time I'll do my own foley work)

I'm not going to go as far as saying that mine is better than the original (it's probably worse) but I'm no pro so just chill and enjoy.

World's first 3D rendered movie (1972)

ulysses1904 says...

Very interesting find. It reminds me of when I first started playing around with 3D animation in 1995 when I found a copy of Infini-D at work. This video brought back the thrill of generating those first animations and figuring out how it all worked. I only had 4 meg of RAM on a 33 Mhz Macintosh Quadra but I didn't care, it was a lot of fun to be able to do any of this stuff. I wasn't modeling hands or faces like these guys, my animations were more like the opening credits of this video.

Thanks for posting this.

Thanks, but I'm gonna remove this from the animation channel because it's not animation, either 2D or 3D animation, nor is it stop-motion and no keyframe is involved at all. Doesn't seem fair.

Dude, did you notice when that dinosaur roared and then started bucking around? That's some classic animation right there.
