grrr, it won't play for me. I'll upvote on good faith. I totally agree with KOMMIE regarding learning multimedia in College. I have taken dozens of multimedia classes, 3D modeling and animation included, but have only learned what feels like a days worth of material (excluding 3D courses). Their idea of "teaching" at my college consists of watching lynda.com videos and completing an assignment. Professional design practice and theory really isn't taught here.

ROFL! Ok, it's playing now. Totally worth the upvote! If it were a little longer it would make an awesome looping video! I was fortunate to have a really good instructor for my 3D animation class. But still, being on a quarter system, we didn't have much time to do any big projects. Instead we made a series of short animated clip with a pre-rigged figure. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=E07C54387BBD7474

Natural Selection when applied to 3d animation: This clip.

Obviously the animator can't hack it in any other realm, much like the Christian rock/punk/rap acts that wouldn't ever be heard by anyone but their poor parents if the church didn't accept and promote them.

The Great VideoSift Coming -Out Thread (Happy Talk Post)

My name is Renato. I´m 'pregnant' of my first daughter, which we´ll call Lucia.
I´m 33, age of dead christs.
I have two cats, Mao-Tse-Tung and Lacan , who brighten my days and nights.
They like to break things.

I live in Sao Paulo, Brazil and am a partner at a 3D animation company, TSI, doing work mostly for advertising and architecture.
I´m originally a journalist, but went to grad school in NY, on the (in)famous ITP - Intergalactic Telecommunications Program, or something similar. I miss NY.

I like to write when I am procrastinating more serious work, but videosift is getting in the way of that. I love to snowboard, despite the fact that after a motorcycle crash and some time at the hospital, the doctor forbid me. Still I went for ten days at Whistler and after two months I was back at being almost ok. Worth it. Now I sold the bike to pay for all those diapers to come.

How Mercury Causes Neurodegeneration (Brain Damage)

Pretty cool. The 3d animation has microtubules too far back; should go all the way up to meet the actin.

The 'tangles' left over are pretty fun. An interesting Alzheimer's theory is that the tangles are part of a final attempt to keep the affected cell and neighboring cells alive after severe stress (in other words, plaque buildups are not the source of Alzheimer's but tombstones left by dying cells).

I am Legend: Alternative Ending

videosiftbannedme says...

I too prefer the theatrical over this one. Not saying I "liked" it, just preferred it. Here's why: Throughout the entire movie, the sub-humans, "infected", whatever you want to call them, showed no human traits. Then, all of a sudden at the end, they're going to show thought and compassion? I don't buy it. Having not read the book (and books are obviously ALWAYS infinitely better) I don't know which ending is more close to the written ending. But regardless, the theatrical stays more true to the rest of the movie.

I, too, also couldn't stand the CGI humans. When are 3D animators going to get the clue and realize that CGI needs to be there too enhance what is already shot? You don't build entire scenes around it. Now, had they done some true motion capture, stayed rigid to the rules, etc. with just a slight amount of computer graphic enhancement, the movie would have been a lot better.

Also, on a different but related side note. Will Smith's performance was especially fantastic; I would say almost TOO good. Here's my point: When he loses Sam, his acting was so good, it took me out of the movie, as I thought to myself, "Damn, he's a good actor." Which is the cardinal sin for a movie to do. I can say, however, that this was the first performance that ever did that to me. So again, kudos to Smith, even if it did pull me out.

Rabbits in Prison!

fissionchips says...

Found some context with the help of the youtube titles:
http://drawn.ca/2007/11/27/usavich/
Usavich is a bizarre series of animated shorts created for MTV Japan featuring some rabbits trapped in a Russian prison. In addition to its pute wckiness, I absolutely love the fusion of 3D animation and traditional 2D illustration. You can catch all the episodes and a small word game at usavich.tv

LSD research and why it was stopped

videosiftbannedme says...

Having taken LSD 4 times more than 12 years ago, in a "graduating" manner (ie. my first was 1/4 of a tab, increasing to one regular tab the 2nd time and thereafter), I can say that acid is a pretty wild drug. No two trips were the same, nor were they comparable to what my friends were experiencing, even though we took the same type and were in the same environment.

My first experience was very mellow and I did not "peak." Spent most of the time watching 3D animation and Spike & Mike Festival of Animation videos, etc.

My second started as mellow; however, when I peaked, I had a bad trip. My third was the most intense as we did it out in the forest of a state park near San Diego. I always equate the peak I had there as a "mental orgasm"; that's truly what it was. My fourth and final was at a friends house and was OK, neither too memorable or bad. I could go into detail but don't want to ramble. I should write them up and post them to Erowid when I get a chance...

I'm an advocate of anything that will expand consciousness and allow people to look at things and think in new ways; but you *have* to do research. Know what to expect (...and that was the hardest thing to do with acid), do it in a controlled environment (ie. plan it out. The last thing you want to experience is tripping and having an unwanted knock on the door), and have a sitter present. I'd also recommend a gradual introduction as it can be overwhelming. If given the chance, I don't think I would do it again. The conditions would have to correct, ie. right mindset, controlled environment, etc, etc. And I've got bigger fish to fry at this point in my life.

Le Building - Engaging Short Film From France (1:33)

silvercord says...

From YouTube:

The movie was completed in 4 months and a half (including screenplay, storyboards and designs). The technique is a mix between traditionnal 2d, flash, and 3d animation. As there are several techniques used in this film, the challenge was to blend them so that you won't notice it too much. For example the Pizza guy, his bike, the bus, and the crane are in 3D, and the cat is animated using Flash. Enjoy ;

You might find this interesting:

Does cricket machinima infringe copyright?
Cricinfo 3D is a service that converts narrative descriptions of cricket matches into 3D animations, where you can pick the camera angles and so on. It's basically machinima cricket. Sky, which holds the exclusive right to broadcast cricket matches, believes that this might be copyright infringement, though it's a dubious claim
