Swedish cops show NYPD how to subdue people w/ hurting them
MordhausVisibly unarmed, he could have had any weapon you choose in his pockets. In that kind of a situation, the officer has to draw and have the weapon ready because of the 21 foot rule. Even having it ready, some people correctly pointed out that he let the suspect get too close to him. If the suspect did have a knife, that officer would likely be dead today if the suspect wanted him to be.
Norwegian cops dont carry guns, Swedish carry, but I think the bar that they have for actually DRAWING the gun is extremely high. I dont know the statistics in either country, so it is an uninformed and anecdotal impression I get, that US cops seems to draw weapons almost as a default reflex in any situation they deem to be potentially dangerous.
There was a video on here a couple of days ago, where the cop was praised for not shooting the suspect, well that suspect seemed to be unarmed (crazy, and suspected murderer, sure, but still unarmed) What about alternative methods, ie: Talking calmly, trying to defuse the situation etc. before drawing? (Maybe that did happen before the video starts, but it doesnt seem that way)

Drachen_Jager says...Okay... But at 21 feet and closing at that speed a good shot should be able to put 4-6 bullets into him.
He MIGHT be still standing by the time he makes it to the gunman and he MIGHT be able to still deliver a killing blow but he is DEFINITELY going to die before long himself.
Also, BOTH of the blows he managed to inflict were non life threatening, they would have stopped at the bone, the target didn't make any move to block the knife cuts or dodge and the terrain was perfect for the knife weilder (even a park bench or a bush in the way screws the 21 foot rule... As if it needed more problems).

It's sorta a half dupe. It seems to be a different video of him doing nearly the exact same thing. I dunno where to call it.
