Should Probies Graduate for a Quality Comment?
Currently, the only way to lose your red "P" is to Sift a video with at least 10 votes. Would you be in favor of graduating members out of probation status for a quality comment? (one that has received 15 up votes)
Yes. It should remove the P, but not give any star points. This way it opens op 2 more queue spots for them and the diamond path is lain before them.
I was going to go with 'no'... but seeing what extra privileges you get once you leave probie status, there's nothing there they could abuse etc. So, taking them out of probation for a quality comment will be a nice incentive for them to stay and continue contributing to the site.
How often do probationary members make quality comments?
Also, "quality" is pretty subjective around here. = P
Just seems like a poor incentive that would result in a flood of probie comments on every video.
Not to mention, sifting a good video is sort of an art/skill.
If probies can't make it thru that hoop.. do they really need to be here?
I disagree slightly. I don't think we would see a flood of comments as it's not a very efficient way of getting out of probation - I still think sifting a video would be easier. Also, this isn't something that needs to be publicized. It could just be something that happens and the user is notified with a member profile comment. The information for this would be hidden away in the FAQ somewhere.>> ^GenjiKilpatrick:

No. I mostly just leave comments here. It was a long time before I sifted a video but my first one went top 15 and I was really proud when it did. It's not really that hard to lose the red P but it IS a right of passage. Absolutely. Take away that incentive and some people might never try. This isn't CommentSift after all.
Probies shouldn't be commenting in the first place.
I think we should raise it to 25 star points to get out of probation and bump everything else up a notch. It's time for that again, isn't it?
Fuck no.
It wasn't all that long ago that we decided quality comments weren't that valuable and castrated them. Now we want to restore them (approximately) to their former glory but only for probies? Fuck those n00bs. GTFOdag.
Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
Maybe we could build a big wall - to keep those probies from stealing our
jeeerbsfront page videos.>> ^xxovercastxx:

It seems that the only videos that make it out of the queue these days require several *promotes or a *quality, I think there should be other ways to remove that ugly P.
Fuck Yes.
or Fuck Maybe. depending on things.
no...and whats more i think the red p should be changed to a blue star of david....that probie comments should be in a different thread on another side of town so that they don't contaminate our superior discourse....and every once in a while we should delete a probie at random, to maintain a perpetual state of fear, so that a probie uprising doesn't occur....
My issue is that they may intermingle with us normals and produce a mixed offspring.
It's a worrying trend.
It's difficult enough to get 15 people to upvote a comment. I don't really think, if enacted, that it would matter much. One or two probies a year most likely would get such a "promotion" that way, mostly incidentally. Couldn't hurt.
To me it seems a far easier task to get a video sifted than to get an applauded comment, so if the probies really wanted to lose their P they could.
I like the way you think.

Should a probie create some quality comments, I'm certain that the community response will hasten their graduation in kind.
Voting for this poll ended with the majority of users voting No - Sifting a video is a right of passage and shows commitment.
