eric3579Is Dakar the name of the model (type) of the truck?
(edit) I see Dakar seems to be the name of the race and the city?

aaronfrPut away you're shitty, shaky phone camera and enjoy the ride. Tosser!
Mookalsays...Yep, the name comes from Dakar, Senegal (In Africa), when the race, the Dakar Rally, was originally ran from Paris to Dakar. It's now held in South America, yet retains the legacy name.
These are specially built off road vehicles, Kamaz is the manufacturer in this example. Like many races, there are different classes of trucks that compete in the Rally, alongside dirt bikes, quads and cars.
It's basically Mad Max and I encourage folks to check out highlights of it, or the similar Baja 1000 race.
Interestingly, the truck class includes support trucks that don't actually compete, but assist competitors stranded in the middle of nowhere.
This Red Bull sponsored Monster (energy drinks!) has right around 1000hp and a 265 gallon fuel tank if I recall correctly. Road trip!

SeesThruYouI've always wondered, what's in the back of the truck? Is it just empty back there? Does it carry supplies? Extra fuel?
newtboyThe story has always been that the trucks were just support vehicles, carrying parts, fuel, and the team...then someone decided to race them too. Some still operate as support vehicles, with parts for their team car, but now many often only carry some spare parts and fuel for themselves (but aren't stuffed full) and do their best to keep the weight down, but still come out around 10 tons! These days the trucks can have support trucks.

vilReally needs lower profile tyres for this.
