President Donald Trump is spreading another grotesque abortion claim —no surprise it’s 100% false. Trump said the following at the same Trump rally that saw a BBC cameraman attacked by a Trump supporter:
President Trump: "Democrats are also pushing extreme ‘late-term abortion.’ Allowing children to be ripped from their mother’s womb right up until the moment of birth. What’s that all about? ...So in Virginia, the governor… The governor stated that he would even allow a newborn baby to come out in to the world and wrap the baby, and make the baby comfortable, and then talk to the mother and talk to the father, and then execute the baby. Execute the baby."
This is blatantly false. There is no such thing as abortion ‘right up until’ birth. Only 1.3% of all abortions happen after 21 weeks. And then almost always because the mother’s health is at risk or the fetus is not viable
The Virginia legislation allows for a determination by one doctor, not three to allow for an abortion in the third trimester if the birth threatens the mother’s physical or mental health, not post birth abortions.
In addition to falsely characterizing the Virginia legislation, Trump supported the GOP health care bill that would have made it harder for children with special needs to access care, especially Medicaid.
