Neil DeGrasse Tyson - The Islamic Golden Age: Naming Right

YouTube Description:

Neil deGrasse Tyson, an American astrophysicist and Director of the Hayden Planetarium, discusses how Islamic scholars contributed to the Islamic Golden Age and how over time independent reasoning (ijthad) lost out to modern institutionalised imitation (taqleed) present in the wider islamic society today.

A compelling and empassioned talk by (the *learning) Dr. Tyson. (I wonder about some of the significant edits of the video towards the end. Does anyone know the story with that?) I found it interesting that, after making his case clear about the premise and potency of the "naming rights," he used it as a platform from which to address the American culture's ongoing de-emphasis of *science, mathematics, and engineering, and its over-emphasis of *religion. You can tell that it's a personally meaningful topic for him, and I wonder how often an audience such as his (in the room in which he's speaking) is exposed (treated?) to such empassioned speeches among their mostly-dry (and "seasoned") academics.
