Each feature of this site on its own sounds logical (and usually is) but the combination of features makes it extremely unattractive for new people to try

For example the limited power points, combined with the reduced number of queued videos, combined with the lack of tagging related or promoting all come to together to give a newer person an extreme disadvantage on gaining points. There are other disadvantages to being a low level member which feed into this that I cant remember at the moment. Think perfect storm.

You'd be hard pushed to call her ugly, but really Megan Fox just isn't that attractive to me. She just seems plastic. I keep expecting to find out she's actually CGI.

So, initially I was gonna make a similar comment to sagemind, but then I had a think about it and changed my mind a little.

Ok, so male stereotypes exist too. See the hypermasculine Gears of War etc for example. Still, there are far more examples of male characters who are more than just a cliched exhaggeration of their gender. As a guy you might not identify with the character you have been given, but at the very least there is somewhat more diversity in male stereotypes, the stereotypes are frequently more "positive" then female ones, and there tends to a higher percentage of actual complex, realistic male characters in games. Still not enough, I'd agree, but still they exist.

Secondly, the male stereotypes that do exist aren't sexualised to the degree female characters often are. Sure, they are rarely unattractive, almost always in good shape etc but they aren't really sex objects. Female characters usually are. They are fantasy characters, but they are male imagined fantasy characters. What we have right now is the guy men want to be, and the woman they want to be in bed with. Games made by guys, for guys. I don't think its malicious sexism, its more sexism as a byproduct of a truly unbalanced demographic.

Things are improving. Gamers are getting older and more and more women are getting into games and game development. Perhaps even the male fantasy woman is changing - Alyx is sexy because she is smart, independent and capable, not because she wears a square inch of leather and relentlessly flirts with the main character. Not that I think we should do away with those stereotypes entirely, just that there needs to be a lot more balance and a lot less one dimensional sex objects.

I think messenger puts it kinda well. How many female characters in games would you be happy as a rolemodel for a sister or daughter? Not many.

This is the most overused and "Cliche" comment for women in comics and video games - and I absolutely hate this. OF COURSE they are stereotypes. Have you ever noticed that if you switched the word out for 'male', the statement would also be true?

Games and comics alike are fantasy. The always have been and always will be. They are used to fantasize. If I was going to fantasize, I'd be buff with exaggerated features too as would the object of my desires.

If leading characters were made unattractive and unlikeable, we wouldn't want to be them. We wouldn't want to fantasize about being them or around them.

I could go on and on, but I think I've made my point - now, I'll watch the rest and see if her comments are as cliche as every other reviewer who totes the same launching argument...

My hotness theorem states that for an given state of attractiveness, levels of clothing tend to push towards the naturally trending direction via the removal of clothing. So, if there is a girl whom is attractive and nearly naked, it is hard to know if it is the fact that she is truly attractive or naked that is alluring, but regardless, she was treading towards attractive before she started to remove clothing. The same goes for a person whom is unattractive, the more clothing removed, the more appealing the person becomes. Thus, we must conclude that these girls started relatively attractive!

I like him, but he's really not smart enough for that role. Texting does not provide a significant enough evolutionary advantage to change the species in 300 years. Probably it doesn't provide enough advantage to change the species in a million years. If anything there's probably natural selection AWAY from texters. I know I find women hunched over their phones texting away unattractive.

How do you reckon it's education which disenfranchises "the smart" so they don't vote? I would think that a corrupt two-party system with equally unattractive alternatives would be a bigger factor, for instance. Also, surely you can see SOME benefits of television compared to the fifties when it first started to become commonplace, if you stop and think about it for a second.

The common thread here is more information, knowledge and context, with perhaps focus being on the information part. If disenfranchisement is the result of getting better informed, then maybe it's time to do something about the object of that information? Perhaps making people part of the process and maybe even feel like their vote matters, as well as having something or someone worth voting on.

I find this unattractively SEDUCTIVE.

Wesley James is turning out to be one rather unattractive baby -- long, skinny, looks like a grumpy old man. Luckily, he looks exactly like his grandfather did at the same age. And granddad grew up to be normal looking.

But I really liked your first rendition -- this isn't a portrait, it's an idea. If we tried to get long skinny actual Wesley James on his feet, he'd look like gollum. I don't think his parents would enjoy that.
