Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights

Here's her appearance live on Top of the Pops in 1978 as I think it's a much better video than the official video!

"Schlag den Raab" is actually a gameshow where one candidate has to beat the moderator (Raab) in a series of games.
Btw, the german (don't say Kraut, you Yank! ) version of top of the pops was called top of the pops.

I find myself in Paris in a hotel room checking out the Sift, and watching some bizarre music videos at the same time. Many of the videos have better music. Well, just some. This is the top of the pop charts, after all.

What matters is how completely insane this one is. Thanks France, for pointing out the weird and crazy.

Waiting For The Great Leap Forward - Billy Bragg

Here's the official lyrics, but in that great folk tradition, they've been updated and changed to fit the times:

It may have been Camelot for Jack and Jacqueline
But on the Che Guevara highway filling up with gasoline
Fidel Castro's brother spies a rich lady who's crying
Over luxury's disappointment
So he walks over and he's trying
To sympathise with her but he thinks that he should warn her
That the Third World is just around the corner

In the Soviet Union a scientist is blinded
By the resumption of nuclear testing and he is reminded
That Dr Robert Oppenheimer's optimism fell
At the first hurdle

In the Cheese Pavilion and the only noise I hear
Is the sound of someone stacking chairs
And mopping up spilt beer
And someone asking questions and basking in the light
Of the fifteen fame filled minutes of the fanzine writer

Mixing Pop and Politics he asks me what the use is
I offer him embarrassment and my usual excuses
While looking down the corridor
Out to where the van is waiting
I'm looking for the Great Leap Forwards

Jumble sales are organised and pamphlets have been posted
Even after closing time there's still parties to be hosted
You can be active with the activists
Or sleep in with the sleepers
While you're waiting for the Great Leap Forwards

One leap forward, two leaps back
Will politics get me the sack?

here comes the future and you can't run from it
If you've got a blacklist I want to be on it

It's a mighty long way down rock 'n roll
From Top of the Pops to drawing the dole

If no one out there understands
Start your own revolution and cut out the middleman

In a perfect world we'd all sing in tune
But this is reality so give me some room

So join the struggle while you may
The Revolution is just a T-shirt away
Waiting for the Great Leap Forwards

The Greatest Finale in TV History.

Bob Newhart was such a master of dry, deadpan delivery. His "Button Down Mind" album was one of the all-time best-selling comedy albums, went straight to the top of the POP charts, knocking even Elvis off, and still is cited frequently by comics as being a huge influence on them (Hello, Steven Wright anyone?).

This vid. right here was such a brilliant wrap to his 80's "Newhart" series, if you've never seen it, I won't spoil it for ya'.

Radiohead - Pyramid Song (music video by Shynola)

NickyP says...

do you remember them doing it on top of the pops? I pissed myself laughing at the audience trying to dance to it. Thom Yorke's face at the end was priceless

Gnarls Vader - Crazy

That is awesome. The outfits look very authentic, especially Chewbacca.
If you like this song, be sure to check out the unplugged version, performed on top of the pops. In my opinion it even tops the original version.

Dag: i think it is indeed live performed. The bass is too loud, especially versus the voice. if it´s playback, it´s a bad one...
