Hate to burst your bubble, but at earth's surface escape velocity the kinetic energy of a projectile is only 32 times its weight in TNT. With suborbital flights and resistance on reentry the effect would be considerably less than that. Wind during the ascent would throw it off farther than the destruction radius unless the slug was really huge (multiple tons) or they put in some internal guidance system that can survive the biggest EMP ever.

Like so much of QI, it seems like they're being intellectually sloppy. They offer some evidence that bees are easier to TRAIN, but do they actually detect smells at lower concentrations? It seems unlikely to me. A dog simply has a much, much larger sensor than a bee.


Inscentinel claim that their studies show the bees to be at least as good as sniffer dogs:

You do know that the richter scale is logarithmic, right?
The energy yield from a 5.9 is equivalent to ~43 kilo tonnes of tnt, whereas the energy yield from a 7.0 is over half a million tonnes.
