Prospect - The Best Low Budget SciFi Shortfilm I've Seen

artician says...

I have a lot of things I think would be better, but I don't know if you mean wholly different ideas with the same setting, or things I would do different with this, or what. My criticism was mainly that elements didn't line up with each other to support the universe they created, and most of all the acting was so stilted.
If you want me to be specific about this:
They lay on that danger is around every corner, but seem to separate from one another regularly despite literally stating not to at least once.
Their attitudes and the way they move and behave in the environment are more like a couple people on vacation, and show nothing to support that this environment could kill them at any second.
I couldn't tell if the daughter was estranged from her father, because there seem to be this "get to know you" scene in the tent, but it could have easily been terrible acting. If it weren't, a single line of clarification could have surpassed that.
This stuff their collecting is extremely precious, but at a point of leisure in their tent they still have to open up their container and look at it to know how much they've collected?
Also, said resource has a stupid name. Almost as bad as "unobtainium" (I don't care if it's a real mineral, it pulls you immediately out of the story).
The girls attitude toward pursuing and killing the other soldier was almost lackadaisical.
They have pretty heavy respiratory suits, but it's possible to survive a slog through the jungle with nothing more than your head wrapped in tape with an air-hose?

I don't like long posts on the sift because at a certain point you just don't want to read anymore, so I'll stop there.

I don't mean this sarcastically - I really want to know - do you have anything better in mind?

TDS 3/13/14 - Fox News Welfare Academy

VoodooV says...

If the poor have it so good, why aren't the rich people throwing away their fortunes?

oh wait..that's because the poor don't have it so good.

If Fox news and their pundits want to fix fraud, that's great..more power to them, but it just seems like they could care less about that...they'd rather just demonize the poor even though a number of those poor probably do vote republican.

so hey, way to expand that big tent GOP.

It always cracks me up at how the right might make a genuine observation like fraud in a system, but instead of coming up with a way to fix that fraud, they either come up with a solution that is completely worse or more expensive than the problem (requiring drug tests for food stamps...drug tests aren't cheap yo) or they just demonize anyone who might use that system regardless.

news flash, demonizing an entire class of people isn't a great way to get them to vote for you. more poor people than rich people dumbasses

Why The Full Moon is Better in Winter - MinutePhysics

BicycleRepairMan says...

For those of you who haven't seen the Aurora (borealis, in my case) light, just go fix that immediately, its a sight to behold. Sure you can find videos of it on youtube, but so can you of a beautiful sunrise or sunset. Seeing it in real life... it really is something else entirely. I was once stuck in a tent on top of a mountain in northern Norway (in Troms) and went out for a wee, and then.. then i looked up.. the ENTIRE night sky (like edge to edge vision and horizon(s) ) was moving and dancing in spectacular green, purple and every other color I could imagine, it was a sight to remember, I tell you.

Is it a Tent or a Hammock? It's both.

spawnflagger says...

I haven't seen one of these in person, but my guess:
1) The ground is hard, the floor of this tent is soft like a hammock, so you wouldn't need to have an air mattress if you care about comfortable sleep while camping. Sometimes the ground is sharp - sticks, rocks, etc - you wouldn't have to clear an area below this tent.
2) regular tents really suck on wet ground if it's been raining hard- even if they are "waterproof"
3) animals - if you hang it high enough and use a rope ladder that you pull up, it's not likely that any animals will get in your tent because of food odor. (not saying it's bear-proof)

Disadvantages:
1) you need to have 3 strong trees to strap it to
2) it's probably heavier to carry while hiking than a regular 3-person tent, since nylon seatbelt-like straps are pretty dense.
3) if something goes wrong, it's gonna hurt when you hit the ground.
4) depending on weather, might be a lot colder than a ground tent.

They do say you can use it on the ground, so I guess really only #2 applies, depending on the situation.

TeaParty Congressman Blames Park Ranger for Shutdown

VoodooV says...

I despise the two party system, but one side, (or to be more specific, one subfaction of one side) is demonstrably more harmful than the other.

I'm all in favor of abolishing parties in this nation, this "but they're equally bad" argument is bull.

Government was actually designed that way though, sure we don't like shutdowns (but then again, here's the problem, some people DO want the gov't to be shut down so that corporations can run everything) but government WAS designed to be slow and not easy to change laws. It has the side benefit of being very resistant to tyranny since it requires so many people and multiple branches to agree

It's one thing to not like how government works, but its quite another to be willing to shutdown gov't over ONE piece of legislation that has the support of the people and the branches of gov't. It's quite another to have a faction completely and utterly oppose the president purely on the basis of the color of his skin.

The big tent GOP is being left behind and that tent is getting smaller and smaller. Gerrymandered districts are pretty much the only reason they are still retaining control. And typically when a company isn't doing so hot, they tend to not actually change tactics, but they do change their name so people with short memories get fooled, so then they called themselves the Tea Party, well that's not working out so well since again, they haven't really changed at all, so now they're rebranding themselves again and calling themselves Libertarians, but it's the same bullshit, just a different name.

No one ever said the ACA is perfect...no one. It was a compromise, What the public WANTED was single payer, but this was the compromise. You want to tweak it? change it? improve it? I'd agree with getting rid of all the exceptions people of talked about,

but you don't threaten to shutdown the gov't over it. especially when you've already failed to repeal it 40+ times in the past. Shutting down the gov't and waging message warfare trying to blame it on the president when it's 100% a congress issue is deranged behavior and basically counts on people being stupid enough to not know how the gov't works (like @lantern53) to believe the message.

People are dumb, but they're not quite THAT stupid, most people do know that it's the Tea Party holding the gov't hostage and not the President. This little stunt is really not helping their chances in the next election so in a weird way, I'm glad they're doing this because it just hastens them getting kicked out in 2014

Anecdotally speaking, a lot of my coworkers are conservatives and every single one of them is saying "fuck the Tea Party"

I agree. It is frustrating. I agree with your assessment, "the whole democratic process is corrupted and warped . . . " Money changes everything. On both sides.

Why didn't OWS transform into a political movement?

VoodooV says...

video is dead.

but the main reason it didn't succeed is because it got associated with college hipsters and the homeless looking for a free place to crash. Camping out 24/7 is not something the typical person wants to do. It was extremely unrelate-able. Let alone hang out with annoying hipsters and smelly homeless people.

most of the 99 percent are wage slaves who cannot take time off work to.......go sit in a tent on concrete for weeks on end. They needed something way more accessible to the regular person.

it was a marketing failure.

McCain & U.S. Government Called Treasonous at Townhall

Oh you silver tongued devil.

Boo to the corporations who support McCain. Boo Godaddy.com! Boo Cisco! Boo US Airways! Boo Davita Healthcare (A Dialysis Company, a SINISTER dialysis company)! Boo to the electric companies. Boo.

Boo to all the S-Corps. Boo to C-Corporations. Boo to Limited Liability Companies.

They should just let you go back and pitch a tent in a park to "protest". What endgame do you think is coming? Anarchy?
