Is Donald Trump a Fascist? | Robert Reich

luxintenebris says...

am aware of the adage 'can't make it drink' & y'all being one dehydrated horse

but, does anything ever quiver - shake - hum in your cognizance? as if something is trying to get attention?

most folks like to look at themselves in a mirror before they go out in public. check for stains - zippers - or anything that might give others the impression they're careless or slovenly.

y'all are acting like a vampire looking in a mirror.

Dimash - STRANGER

rancor says...

Other sources like Wikipedia say ~6 octaves. This particular performance looks like lip-sync, especially in the finale where his throat doesn't appear to be doing any vibrato. Still, apparently he's an extremely skilled musician and singer, so at least it's not fraudulent.

Fake DJs Compilation

kir_mokum says...

1. people who like this kind of trash music and pay for these trash festivals do not give a fuck about how it's done, unfortunately. this does NOT fly in most scenes and you'll get laughed out of a career if you get caught. mistabishi being a fine example (being racist didn't help either though).

2. i have no idea why these people fake this stuff anyway. it would be SO BORING to stand there doing nothing for an hr or 2. plus it is not that hard to DJ on those CDJs. PLUS THEY HAVE A SYNC BUTTON.

3. some of these are false positives. the guy at the 4 min. mark is doing shit. and aoki is searching for the next tune. the dudes with him are faking doing anything though. there's only one tune playing.

The Stranglers - Golden Brown (TOTP 1982)

moonsammy says...

Almost certainly a mimed / lip synced performance, unfortunately. I really wish programs like this would've done actual live performances as the default, pretty sure audiences could've handled versions that sounded slightly unlike the album recordings.

Brothers Johnson - Strawberry Letter #23 1977

Spontaneous Synchronization

jmd says...

None of them. The floating platform causes a resistance in swings which start slowing them all down. Those that are off rhythm the most get more resistance. Eventually, like an asymptote curve on a graph, they all begin to converge on each other.

Also like a asymptote curve they may never actually achieve a %100 sync because as a metronome begins to match its sync more, the more the resistance against it lessens, but as the resistance lessens the amount of force to correct it is less.

So, The real question here is which one was the Alpha. What one had the stronger beat, and had the rest time up with it?

Bill Maher - Sen. Bernie Sanders

MilkmanDan says...

Thanks for the video reminding me of why (and how much) I like Bernie Sanders.

I liked what he had to say, but on the other hand I really think Maher was asking the right questions and I don't know that Bernie had great answers.

Shattering Trump's cult of personality is necessary. Maybe Trump will do that himself by just continuing to dodge and not follow through on anything, but we can't take that for granted because A) it is possible that he will put forth enough token effort into his campaign promises (wall, etc.) that he can simply blame lack of completion on "Democrat obstruction", and B) even if he does *nothing*, it has totally worked for him so far with regards to approval ratings in his base.

"Make America Great Again" was a stroke of genius, whether he happened on it by dumb luck or not. Obviously a good thing at face value, yet vague enough that anyone can attach their own baggage to it and feel like Trump is totally in sync with them. What do Democrats have to counter that? All of Bernie's offerings are campaign-promise-speak that can't happen unless there's a D in the White House and a majority in Congress. And no sure thing even then.

Like I said, I don't know that I think Bernie had great answers to those questions. I don't know that anybody else has better answers right now. I certainly don't. But I DO think that those questions are the right ones to be pondering over the next two years.

MagLev Trains Pass At 700 km/hour (434.96 mph)

BSR says...

Stop the video at 1:09 and then tap the period key to advance frame by frame. I believe it's the repeating design of the train and the sync of the video that causes the illusion. Camera vs naked eye is like digital vs analog. Pattern vs blur.

BTW, put some underwear on your eyes, please.

DataSchmuck said:

There's a weird ripple effect going on in the top left corner of the window when it passes. Can anyone explain what that is? I'm guessing something to do with frame-rate of the camera vs speed of the passing train? Or would you see it with the naked eye?

How thieves steal keyless tech cars

ChaosEngine says...

"I've always wondered myself about keyless tech safety for this exact reason. How can the signal not just be copied and replayed?"

Well, I can't say for certain, but if I was designing it, the signal wouldn't be the same every time. Basically, you would have an algorithm that generates a signal (essentially a large number encoded as a binary stream) based on a seed and the current time.

The seed is unique to the car and the key.

So when you press the button, the key does something like

entryCode = SomeComplexAlgorithm(seed, time())

so the car would do something like

entryRequest = GetSignal()
checkedRequest = SomeComplexAlgorithm(sameSeedAsKey, time())
if (checkedRequest == entryRequest) Unlock()

That's obviously a vast oversimplification (not sure how they'd get around the time sync), but you get the idea.

What surprises me here is not that the car starts, but that it doesn't cut out once it gets out of range of the key. Even a strong relay would only have a short range (1-2km at most?).

Awesome, but they need to get rid of the strobes for filming and sync the speed with the camera shutter speed. I could barely see what's happening.
